DD usually will play with her hands while feeding.. but the last few days she will hit herself repetetivley in the forehead. If I hold her hand, she squirms and comes off the boob. She hits herself so hard though, quite often she will have a red forehead after her feed.
Is there any reason she might be doing this?
P does it as well... I hold his hand and talk to him and he stops
But I did notice he would do it if I was distracted and doing something else and he wanted the attention; or if he was really tired
DS used to do this too. It started out gentle and got harder and harder to the point I thought it must be doing damage. lol
Nothing I did would stop him and like you said he'd pull off the boob and get upset if I tried, so I left it and he stopped after a little while. Not sure how long - a few weeks maybe?
wait til she starts pinching you or hitting you or playing with your ears they go through stages and are feeling different sensations when they do things. Maybe you could distract her from hitting himself by using your hand to hit her hand like you are hi-fiving?
My DS did this too for a month or two and probably stopped around 4-5 months old. I asked a child physio about it (whom we were seeing for other reasons) and she said that they often have an involuntary reflex that makes them do it and it is nothing to worry about and he will grow out of it. And he did.
