How do you know if it was something you ate that upset your baby?
Oliver has been pretty unsettled today, lots of crying (different kind of cry) and not settling. He also had 3 dirty nappies this morning and they've gone back to having those lumpy bits in it (he's been going only once maximum twice for the last two weeks and normally in the afternoon)
I had a bowl of ice cream last night, and another bowl of icecream about two nights ago... could it be that?
hmm it is hard to say whether or not it is the ice cream, the only thing I could suggest is a process of elimination. So maybe cut out all dairy in your diet for a couple of weeks and see if that makes any difference, if it doesn't, then cut something else out like gluten etc.
Sorry i'm not much help, but that is what I would do in your situation. Hope he settles for you soon xoxo
It could be, it might not be, it’s hard to say. Strange poo, changing poo habits and being unsettled are all completely normal and don’t necessarily mean anything. The only way to know for sure would be to go on a strict elimination diet.
My baby is unsettled, cries a lot and does weird poo unexpectedly too.
It seems harsh to do trail and error :-( I don't eat alot of diary so can't cut it out of my diet and the only thing to try would be to eat it again but seeing him like this isn't worth it :-( perhaps it's better for my waistline anyway... totally hate the unknown of breast feeding...
Make a guess that it is it, but also that he will get used to it. So have smaller amounts yourself, but don't cut it out all together.
If he is unsettled and you think it is tummy-related, then you may find that a bath, or rubbing his tummy, or a not-very-hot-pack on his tummy all help.
What do you mean by lumpy bits?
It's really hard when they up and change on you isn't it? There are a lot of possibilities though. Sometimes we can figure something out, but a lot of the time it just comes and goes and we're none the wiser. I do think as mums sometimes we're a little too hard on ourselves, immediately blaming ourselves - for what we ate, or for doing someting differently or getting something wrong - when in fact it may just be due to the many vaguaries of babydom.
Take care
Danielle, my DS does poos like that sometimes, sometimes not. Yep, they are tricky little creatures these babies, aren’t they.
And FWIW I fully BF my first two and they were the most happy, peaceful little things, they hardly ever cried. DS2 (your DS3’s birthday buddy) who is also fully breastfed couldn’t be more different. He is fussy, cranky, grumpy and cries a lot for absolutely no apparent reason. It might be something I’ve eaten but more likely, he’s just a fussy, cranky baby. I’m happy rocking and cuddling him rather than stressing about my diet. JMHO
Hi,
The "look" you describe is pretty normal baby poo - it is normal to have white cottagy cheese bits in it (but lots of other things are normal too) It was probably just a coincidence. What else did you do that day? go out? Less sleep than usual? Big weekend to wind down from. When things seem to change some-how breastfeeding is always implicated - but breastfeeding is actually the constant - always great quality, always there for comfort on those fussy days
