If the idea of the position is to keep you and bub the same way up then would it also work if you both lay down on your sides?? or are you also trying to get gravity to help S latch on??

Its to do with gravity too Kmn. So its sit like that, or lean forward to feed her iykwim... so gravity keeps the nipple from going up into the palate & helps it go to the back of the mouth instead.

Would it be easier on your back if you arrange the heights really carefully - I'm thinking about something like holding Summer with her bum on the kitchen bench and standing yourself?
