As the title suggests, last night and today I've been lactating blood. I had mild mastitis last week, and over the past two days the red marks and tenderness have been there (not sure if it's a second case of mastitis or part of the first?). Then I've noticed blood on my baby's mouth for a few feeds, and I'm 100% certain it's not from the nipple itself - it has to be from inside my breast.
Has anyone experienced this before, and is it serious? Or just part of the breastfeeding fun?
I was EE and I had burst veins about 3 times. I thought it was to do with expressing but maybe it wasn't?? I was really shocked because when it first happened I looked down at the bottles and saw the milk was pink so I raced to the doctor. I didn't have mastitis so not sure if it is something different with you. When it happened to me it lasted for a couple days slowly going away. My situation of course is different to yours so I'm not sure what to suggest in how to manage it. I guess it was easier to manage this issue whilst EE because I just turned the pump down a bit for a few days but kept on expressing. I had enough supplies that I didn't feed it to DS, but maybe I could of, I'm not sure. I also tried phoning the ABA but the person I spoke to hadn't heard of burst veins before.
IT can happen. It's more of a medical issue, so maybe talk to an LC for reassurance (ABA counsellors are not LCs, btw). The blood doesn't pose a risk to your baby, but it's best to get your breasts checked out in case it's something more serious.
Hope it's sorted quickly Must be worrying
