Sterla, I used them for 3 weeks full time then another 3 weeks part time with DS1 as he had a tongue-tie and until it was snipped that was the only way he could attach. I also found that I had a plentiful suppy while using them.

The studies that showed reduced milk supply from shield use were mostly done on older style shields. It isn't really known whether the current sort reduce supply or not. But there are other problems with them - the biggest one being the nuisance factor.

It is certainly possible to use them long term, some people do. But it's not recommended. Usually when a shield is recommended, it is also suggested that the LC follow up with you to assist with transitioning you from their use. I don't know for sure, but imagine that feeding an older baby who moves around a lot might make it more difficult to use the shields down the track. Is there are reason why you want to keep using them?

There are things you can try to transition from them - a LC or the ABA helpline can help with this. Usually the first step is to attach with them, then once you have let down, removing baby, removing shield and trying to re-attach. Have you tried attaching without the shield now that your baby is a bit bigger?
