I had my Mirena inserted just after my 6wk check, so around 8wks. It didn't have any effect on my supply.
I BF my DD for 12mths with my Mirena and I love it.
He could be going through a fussy period or Wonder Week. If you are at all concerned about your supply, have a look at the lactation biscuits you can make.
They have brewers yeast them in, which is supposed to increase milk supply.

I have the Mirena and never noticed a drop in supply but that does not mean it doesn't happen to some people.
That said i wouldn't be rushing to get it removed, he could be fussing for many different reasons hun, it could all be a coincidence.

I'd suggest drinking plenty of water, using your lactation cookies and offering the boob as suggested by the ABA.
IF it continues and your REALLY worried about the affects it's having on you both then i would contact your GP and disvuss the options.
My Mirena had to be inserted at the local hosp with an OBGYN, the waiting list was quite long and the costs to see him and pay for the Mirena would stop me having it removed without reason.

I hope it's nothing, could he be teething (my girls started teething that early), wonder weeks ???

    GL hun.

There's a lot of anecdotal evidence to support it.

I have had a few friends that had bad side effects on Mirena, so it's not something I personally recommend using.

Many, many years ago I told my GP the pill was making me depressed, which they denied it would at the time. Now this is a well known common side effect.

I think it's a matter of each to their own, we all respond differently but i wouldn't just assume that him being unsettled is automatically from the Mirena, it really could be coincidence.
Hopefully he's back to normal this evening and you can just see how you go. hun.

I just pasted the info, i had a bub to attempt to get to sleep, and didn't have time to even read through it properly. There could be a few things going on, your son is 4 months which is often a time that parents report that sleep patterns change, bubs are unsettled, and/or their supply is dropping. Bub or you could be getting sick, or he could be heading for a growth spurt. It could be that the Mirena affects your supply, meds affect all of us differently. You could try boosting your supply through extra feeds and they try lactation cookies or some of the herbs etc that are meant to help. You could see if your supply picks up again after a few days or you could try to get the mirena out now.

i take meds that are reported to make breastfeeding difficult. i have to take the meds, and can't take meds to increase supply (cos they would counteract) so for me, from the begining i choose to feed often and as much as my DD would take. Luckily for me, she was happy to feed 2 hourly or less. I was able to avoid using any formula and we are still breastfeeding at 17 months and during pregnancy. I don't know whether the meds make breastfeeding difficult FOR ME, or whether even without the meds, we would have fallen into the same pattern of feeding. I just had to make decisions on the info that was out there, and what i was seeing with me and my bub.

With medication I am back on some antidepressants again. Years ago I had a blood test while on these, and they increased my prolactin levels, so guess what I have a very small supply again (from having almost nothing).

It's a very interesting area reading about side effects that different people anecdotally have to medications.
