I am back on 60mg but it is good to know I can increase the dose further. Thanks Sez!! I am hoping my supply will be better for the moment but I seem to have picked up a bug of some sort. I had a temperature of 38.9 earlier so I am watching the blister on my right nipple to make sure that isn't the cause. I just don't need to be sick on top of all this breastfeeding stuff and find my supply gets worse.
Caro - I just take 2 tablets 3 times a day to increase to 60mg. But like everything, remmeber it is a prescription drug and best check with your GP before you increase.
Caro, none of my Drs knew about it, they all wanted to put me on Maxalon. It was at my suggestion that I got the script. I discussed the dosage with my MCHN and my LC. I take 3 tablets 3 times a day.
Gosh no, I have a chronic low supply on the right and moderately low on the left, combined with Nicky's very high palate we really need the motilium to keep BFing going at all. We still have to comp feed for him to put on weight. I would love to overflow with milk!
Everyone knows that I need it to continue BFing, so no one has suggested coming off it just yet. No side effects for me, and there doesn't appear to be any for Nicholas.
Caro - I am on 60mg and I don't have overflow either. I think my supply also has a lot to do with our attachment issues which is how I have managed to end up with mastitis too
Oh Michelle, bigs hugs for you hun. You poor thing, it shouldn't be this hard. It's times like this I just want to say 'why me?' or why us in this case. We both want to do this so badly, yet we keep coming up against more barriers!
Yep, I'm still taking Elevit and on the recommendation of my LC also taking.....
Fenugreek 1X3
Blessed Thistle 2X3
Evening primrose 1X3
Fish oil 1X3
Cod liver oil cap 1X1
Vitamin C 1X1
Calcium & magnesium 1X2
I think that's it! I was already taking the fenugreek and blessed thistle, but have been taking the other supplements for three weeks now, and I really do think that something is helping.
I reckon Caro! But I don't want to stop anything in case that's what's helping LOL! Of course, it could just be everything together that's doing it. As well as the Motilium, buckets of water that I drink, eating well, going for a walk every day, expressing etc etc etc. I'm doing everything I've been told to do! It's amazing I have any time left to look after Nicholas, never mind cooking dinner and looking after the house and having a social life
Caro - My GP new nothing about it either, it was Ned's paed her prescribed it.
Sez, I also take Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle (I find the BT really good - better than the Fenugreek). I also eat oats every day too and drink loads of water.
My paed jokingly said that women get 'addicted' to Motilium LOL, and I reckon he is right. I know I don't want to stop/can't stop 'cos my supply vanishes and I'm too scared too!
You've tried the aktavite I suppose? I find that works really well, but I'm trying to lose a few kg atm lol! I drink 2 litres of water every night after the kids are in bed (yeap I have to get up to pee for heaps for the first few hours after going to bed) and TRY and drink a lot throughout the day but it's sometimes pretty hard with 2 young rugrats.
Sez - yep, it shouldn't be this hard but I agree with Caro ..... you must rattle!!!!!!! And yes, this breasfeeding business takes up sooooooo much time with expressing, feeding, trying to feed for longer to stimulate supply / empty the breast / encourage attachment not to mention trying to go for a walk, shop, wash, cook. I just can't do it all and thankfully DH has been a gem.
Caro - thank you for saying we are doing a good job. Somedays you really need to hear it when the going is getting a little tough. I am holding out in the belief that as Oscar gets bigger this SHOULD get easier (famous last words )
Soph - do you have to drink the aktavite?? I don't drink milk so I haven't been able to try it yet. You poor love with the water intake. Just get to bed to sleep and you have to go to the loo!! At least I KNOW I will be up every 2 hours feeding at the moment so I can drink as much as I like and not disturb my sleep any more than it already is.
I'm still taking the 90mg/day, and giving formula top ups, and Nicholas gained 210g last week HOORAY! That's three fantastic weight gains in a row! So now we are going to leave it for a month before the next one . I won't know what to do with myself, I'm so used to having him weighed weekly.
I really think that all the things I'm taking as well as eating oats and drinking RLT are really helping. I don't think I've ever had so much milk! I especially think the RLT and oats help. Last night Nicky had a really good sleep in the evening and I couldn't bring myself to wake him up, so it was almost four hours between feeds.......well he didn't want a bottle afterwards which is amazing in the evening! I've got everything crossed that we can keep this up.
BTW Soph, I love aktavite, but it doesn't really agree with Nicholas unfortunately. I started drinking it while pg and after four days started leaking colostrum for the first time! So I think it would be beneficial, it's a bummer I can't have it.
Michelle, do you drink soy milk? Because I think that aktavite is really nice in soy. I dont know if you have to drink it though, I think it would probably work if you eat it off a spoon - YUM! How's Oscar going?
Im still on 2 tablets a day. My gp managed to get a special authorisation for me so I get 50 tabs in each pack for the same price as 25
I used to drink aktavite with soy milk and it was delicious. You could try goats or rice milk as well.
I still dont have any excess milk...just making enough to feed my little monster and thats it. So i definitely am "addicted" too! im too scared to ever stop...
Just though I 'd jump on the band wagon and tell everyone that I too am still on the motilium. 30mg/day. DD is having one full bf a day and top ups for every other feed. On average, it's 600ml of formula a day. I am absolutely loving bf now and I am soo happy that I perservered . DD is putting on weight like no tomorrow, she's now about 7.3kgs, at 17wks!!
Glad to hear that everyone is mostly doing well.
Kellie, that's wonderful news! Danni's right, it IS a great feeling, isn't it?
Well, I checked out a new website last night that suggests supplementing BEFORE a BF! I had wondered befroe if that could work, but no one recommends it here. It's very interesting research, and it pretty much describes everything we're going through ATM with our difficulties with a preference for the bottle. I'm not going to change our routine totally, but I am now BFing Nicholas, then supplementing, then BFing again. Only done it twice, last night and this morning, but so far, so good. During the second BF this morning he actually started smiling up at me like he was having a really good time! I wanted to cry I was so happy! So I really think there's something in that research.
