I have been BFing for the last 16 months and only one feed a day for the last few months. In the last month or so I've noticed that my nipples look "squashed." I don't know if my nipples have been stretched and then they get squashed into my breasts when I wear bras/shirts or if it's something else. Either way, it wasn't like this before when I fed my daughter. In addition, I always did lots of expressing and never had this issue and that really stretched my nipples. There's an actual line on both nipples where the nipple folds into the breast. I hope this makes sense. I guess I just wanted to see if this was normal or if I should get it checked out.
starangelk, I've only been feeding for 4 months, but my right nipple does the same thing - it must always sit squashed to the same side in my bra, cos it's always creased on the right side and squished sideways. It straightens out after a feed or is my nipple gets erect, though. I haven't been worried about it, but having said that, I do remember a doctor demonstrating how to do a breast self examination, many years ago, and there's something in that about checking nipple symmetry.
It doesn't hurt - no other signs of trouble. It's just never happened before so I wondered whether it was an issue. Seems like it's not really. Thanks guys
