    Sore nipple

What do I put on a sore nipple that's been bitten one time to many?

The only thing that really works for me is breastmilk. If there's an actual wound I find that lansinoh getting in there can hurt, but if it's just bruised and kind of grazed it helps.

    Ouch.
How are you going with stopping the biting?

In doing the take off, no more boob method at the moment but he's still biting. It tends to happen at the end of a feed when he's not starving anymore or when he's distracted. I'm not sure what else to try, the other two weren't bitters.

So he's doing the end-of-feed nip?
Can you see it coming at all? There's usually a 'tell'. If he's well attached with the nipple back in his mouth, he'll have to pull back a bit before biting and this is when you can quickly pop him off before he does it.
If you can't tell, it may be helpful to go back to basics with positioning and attachment and make sure he's in really close, big wide mouth, etc, etc, so that he'll have to pull back a bit to bite. Once babies get bigger they can often feed quite effectively without drawing the nipple in to the back of their mouth and so they can get these sneaky bites in. Paying close attention to P&A can help a lot.
Hope you can get him to stop soon!

It's actually at the beginning of the second boob. I'll feed him one side, he's unsettled on that boob, take him off, he does the head burrow trying to get back on so I swap him to the other side and then he bites as he goes on. Little punk

    Re: Sore nipple

I sympathise! DS2 is doing the whole biting thing at the moment. No teeth yet, but I still have cracked nipples as he clamps down so hard. I try to pre-empt it like MadB says, but I miss it most times (blame the demanding almost 4yo!).

I'm just using breast milk atm. It's hard to say if it's working as he does it quite often. Do you 'stick' to your breast pads/bra like me? I guess the Lansinoh would help there by keeping it moist.

    Re: Sore nipple

It's generally better to keep it dry, rather than moist, as far as healing goes. Things like Lansinoh can make it worse. use breastmilk, air it, keep it dry (ie, replace nursing pads regularly, etc).

Sounds like a tricky little one... What if you don't offer the second side? Maybe try a different hold/position to see if that makes a difference?

    Re: Sore nipple

Yeah that's what I'm thinking MadB.

It's also coincided with starting solids so he's gotten two teeth and started having food and sometimes I think he wants the comfort of boobie but then realises he's not hungry so just plays instead. He does tend to get this cheeky little grin in before he bites. When I go "no biting" he just snipes and giggles at me. How can you be cranky with that
