So we have had problems with dd's latch and sucking right from the beginning. Not to mention her complete refusal to draw the nipple to the back of her pallet, she will only suck on it, on the front of the pallet. Anyway feeding her was definately uncomfortable, felt like a pinch but it wasn't unbearably painful. I don't know if it's because she is getting older and her mouth is getting stronger but it has now moved into the unbearably painful category. She hurts my nipples soooo much. And after a feed they burn for about 10 minutes like they have been rubbed raw. She isn't producing any blisters or cracks so I don't know why it hurts so much but it really does. I have to bite my lip through every feed.
It's almost like she is chomping on those poor nipples, with her weird suck, her whole bottom jaw comes completely away from the breast with every suck. Is there anything I can do to toughen them up. I have been using lanisoh but it makes no difference. I need help because it really really hurts and I am starting to hate feeding her.
oh hun I have been where you are :hugs: have you tried cupping your breast so that she gets more in her mouth, holding your breast up as she feeds. Do you have a CHN that you can get to and see, or call the hospital and ask if they have a lactation consultant you can see/ one they reccomend.
Lanisoh was useless for me. What I found great was Rite Aid Hydrogel breast disc, oh they were heaven. I got mine at Woolwoorths. Keep them in the fridge for the added relief.
If you can give one side a rest for an extended time and then swap you might be able to give your nipples the chance to heal. I ended up having to put DD to one side all day, alot more often, because my other side was bleeding. if you arent at the bleeding stage maybe give one side a rest for a feed then rest the other side at the next feed.

Can you experiment with her either almost sitting up or lying down and see if either of these help?
I had to take my 4 month old to lactation day stay because he had got strong enough to hurt like heck - it turned out for me that the underside of my nipple wasn't actually going in his mouth. The LC also pointed out that they start to copy you as they get a bit older - so if you make big open mouth faces then bub may do so too.
We've been seeing a LC since she was born. Because her attachment is so wonky. We have had thrush on and off since she was born too. I am having real trouble getting rid of it for good despite a pro biotic a day. Daktarin and vinegar on my nipples not to mention washing everything in Canestan. Generally with the thrush I have super itchy breasts and it feels like razor blades slicing down my breast. Not much nipple pain with it though. I don't have itchy breasts or the razor blade feel. It's just my nipple, I think I found a tiny crack in the one that is the worst today. It's hurting even rubbing up against my bra. The thought of feeding her off it is literally giving me the shivers. She's 2 months old this week, it should be getting better by now *sigh*

Sometimes it can be more like 3 months before it all falls into place. Sorry it's been a struggle for you this time. IS the LC helping, or would getting a second opinion be a good idea?
My LC is lovely but she isn't having a lot of luck sorting out the issues. I am going to see another woman who specialises in tongue tie because I am wondering if dd has a posterior tongue tie that my LC hasn't picked up.
We also have a referral to see a speech therapist because my LC thinks that dd's complete refusal to draw the nipple to the back of her pallet might be a sensory issue she has.
