Just one thing on 'growth spurts'.
We used to believe that these periods where baby fed more often were due to an increased need for milk as their growth rates increased. What research has shown, however, is that the amount of milk that a baby takes between one and six months of age is the same - the volume does not increase at all over this time, though the amount that each baby takes does vary considerably (between 600-1200mL I think).
The extra feeding actually seems to be an expression of need for comfort and reassurance during developmental leaps when a lot is going in their physical and psychological development.
Wonder weeks.
Formula-fed babies do need to drink increasing volumes of milk as they get older as the milk is static. Breast milk changes as babies grow to precisely meet their changing needs.
