So my friend had her beautiful little baby last Thursday but her milk hasn't come in yet. She has cracked nipples now and the midwives are saying it's because her milk isn't in and the baby is hungry and so keeps sucking. Does that sound right?
They also say that her attachment is text book. Apparently the baby gets left on an hour per side to suck???
Honestly, I have no idea. Seems to me if attachment was good there wouldn't be cracks and milk would be in so I'd be checking that and looking for tongue and lip ties.
I'd advise her to call the ABA and get a lactation consultant to see her ASAP, if she has no milk yet and cracked nipples already it will be easy to turn to formula, which she may not want.
