What's going on? Is this Mastitis???

So, approximately a week ago I got a fever a few times late afternoon/early evening, it never turned into anything more than that so I was just grateful I wasn't getting the 'flu. Then DH, DS and I went on holidays, I thought I had a tummy bug because the night we arrived I was really nauseous and was throwing up, that continued for 2 more days and I was so ridiculously lethargic (did a preg test, negative) and now I'm still nauseous and very lethargic. And in the last 24 hours one of my boobs has gotten very sore and has a red spot Let down feels like knives and my whole breast feels bruised. I can't feel a blocked duct and I never had a crack or anything, is it possible that this is mastitis or does it just take longer to recover from illness when breastfeeding?

I have had a bit more energy today, although that could be because we're at home now and I'm very happy to be back! If it is mastitis do I wait it out now I'm starting to feel a bit better? I'm worried that if I'm given antibiotics that I'll get thrush and I really don't want another problem compounding this one! What else can I do apart from antibiotics?

Any help would be massively appreciated. I'm so tired of feeling ill And I miss being able to play and spend lots of time with my boy

Mastitis. Keep the breast as empty as possible, after you have fed, put an icepack on the breast. Take some nurofen. Rest. since you've gotten this far it seems likely you will overcome it without the need for antibiotics. No, it doesn't take longer to recover from illness when you are breastfeeding. Look after yourself.

It sounds to me like it's mastitis. Well, the red boob and soreness does. When I get it, I get the red spot on my boob, which is hot and sore to touch. I also get hugely high fevers and flu like symptoms, like headache, aches joints, lethargy, runny nose. I have never had vomiting with it though. Maybe you've had a bug and masititis? Is bub feeding well? Feed him and drain the breast well, when you feed him try to have his chin on the red spot to massage it. A heat pack can help too, I like to have a shower with the shower head on the sore spot. You can take paracetomol and ibuprofen to help with the pain and any fever you have. Rest up. If it gets hold of you you will feel like you've been run over by an mack truck! It could be a good idea to go to the doc and get a prescription JIC, it can get hold of you quickly and you don't wnat to be feeling like that! Hugs hun. Mastitis sucks!!

It was mastitis, the doc gave me antibiotics but I was slowly starting to feel better so I waited it out. Still can't believe I spent 3 days throwing up before the breast symptoms showed up!

Thanks to everyone for your advice!
