When DD feeds i feel like i want to vomit. Anyone else been through this? Is this what breastfeeding aversion is? Is is a pregnancy thing? Does it settle again? Is there anything that can help?
I know when I started BFing (I guess when it was hormone led?) I used to get a surge of nausea when I let down that stayed for a couple of minutes. It was worse when I was hungry or dehydrated, so I made sure I had a water bottle with me all the time and just had plain crackers on hand. Is it every feed? Or just sometimes? Have you had any other sickness?
I had it in the early weeks of feeding too and found it to be worse when I was hungry or thirsty. Once I got pregnant again, I'd feel nauseous while DD was feeding. It'd generally pass after a few minutes. I found keeping a some water to drink nearby helped. It was as if my body was reminding me that it needed extra fluids.
It's happening every feed now, i had a 24 hour gastro bug last week which has gone but i'm having having more nausea, which is worse when i feed. Will try the drink bottle, my water intake has prob been bit low.
I had gastro a few weeks ago too and it took a lot longer than normal for the nausea to go away afterwards too. I guess when your fluid intake needs to be higher than normal, you really feel it after a day or two of not keeping anything down. Hope it gets better for you soon.
My ABA group leader told us that this happened to her when she was pregnant and breastfeeding. Some days she was fine and other days she told her little one that he could feed until she'd counted to 10 and then he had to hop off. That was her way of coping with it.
It could be water intake too though, just make sure and drink plenty.
I got it early on, really really lightheaded and felt like I was going to faint. I found that having a water bottle nearby helped and I sipped constantly through feeds but it did pass as time went on. You are probably needing to up water and if you haven't been well either hun xoxox
I had this when I was still feeding DD1 and was pregnant with DD2.. It got to the point that I really didnt want to breastfeed her because it was so bad, I would feed her to sleep, leave the room and head straight for the bathroom.
It did start to get better once my general morning sickness started to go away, but also DD1 weaned herself when I was about 5-6 months pregnant.
Fingercrossed it gets better for you soon!
And btw, when it was really bad for me, I actually had an exit plan when I was feeding in case it wouldnt wait til DD1 was finished and I could make it to the bathroom! Worse still, I actually had to use my emergency exit a fair few times!
I'm not sure about the pregnancy aspect of it, but the nervous (as in nerve-related rather than all-in-your-head) reflex that makes some lactating women vomit can be helped by eating a bit before feeding so that your blood sugar levels are less likely to spike.
hope it eases soon.
I had it for weeks, fortunately DD was down to 2 feeds as I really don't think I would have coped. Ihad other reasons but we went cold turkey on her weaning rather than cutting down. But the nausea while preg and BF never stopped for me.
Wish I could help offer some advice but I just sucked it up until I decided I just couldn't BF anymore.
Yep had it at the start of breastfeeding DS, and it came back with this pregnancy. Food and/or water helped a bit, otherwise it is breathing through it
Hope it settles for you soon
