We moved out of all the rooms that we could while we were still living in the house - we had 2 spare rooms as our (at the time) 5 month old was in our room and our 18 month old was in her own room. We moved boxes into the garage as they were packed and completely cleaned the 2 spare rooms and closed the door before we actually moved out. We also packed up the lounge, dining and kitchen slowly over 2 weeks and moved those boxes into the garage. We have a lot of stuff in our kitchen that we don't need for everyday use and we just survived with a minimum number of plates, bowls, cutlery, glasses, saucepans, frypan and cooking utensils. We left most of our big furniture where it was for moving day but all books and DVDs, linen, photo frames and display items etc were packed up. We also packed one suit case each and lived out of that and packed the rest of our clothes.

On moving day, we moved into my parents' house for a few days (maybe 3). DH and I spent the days at our new house unpacking and at our old house cleaning and Mum looked after our kids. She also made our meals so we didn't have to think about food and cleaning up afterwards. We slept there at night time too. It made life a lot less stressful to not have to try and have everything set up for food and sleep. We got take away for lunch so we didn't have to go back to mum's in the middle of the day - we also didn't need to clean up afterwards or do any preparation.

If you have family around - use them.

Good luck with your move!
