i think i want to move to geelong.
its about 2 hours from where i live now.
i have never moved away from here before so i need some advice.
Would it be a good idea to get my bills sorted out before i go?
Is it going to be expensive to hire removalists? or should i do it all myself?
Is geelong a good place to live?
Which areas should i avoid moving to?
Do any of you fellow BB'ers live in geelong?
i think thats it fo now i will ETA if i think of anymore!!
TIA!

I would suggest yes, you want a fresh start so no bills or atleast payment plan is a good idea.

As i have mentioned we moved to Geelong a few years back, we did it ourselves, hired a trucj the biggest you can with a normal license, if you can move mid week it is alot cheaper than on the weekend. Removalists are expensive but sometimes if the have half a truck going that way you can get it cheaper.

Geelong is fantastic, i would never have moved back except for Dp being retrenched and my being pregnant.
Which areas should i avoid moving to?
Um Corio, Corio, Corio
We lived in Newton and it was perfect, a bit pricey but worth it, as we never used the car much. Like here there are some not so good suburbs, i think if you have a look at realestate prices in each suburb it will give you an indication of which ones too avoid.
I agree with everything Abb has said, Geelong is a great place. I've lived here all my life. If you can hire a truck as Abb said would be heaps cheaper removalists could be pricey. Are you buying or renting? You could check out local Real Estates to get an idea of prices and areas to avoid Corio & Norlane. Wishing you all the best and if there's anything else we can help you with, ask away.
Didn't know we were neighbours Abb, that's great.
OK so im NOT moving to corio lol
i will have to look into hiring a truck.... hmmmm
abbie yes i do want a fresh start so i will be getting all my bills paid....
i had a talk to mum tonight as i was a bit worried of what she would say ( mum and i have a very CLOSE relationship)
but i was very suprised she said that its probably best for me and what i need at the moment.
So im very happy with my decision!!!!
Hey Rav ... we thought about moving to Geelong from Melb but ended up moving to Ballarat as housing is cheaper to rent/buy.
As Abb suggested ... I shared half a truck which worked out heaps cheaper. Just ring up a removal company and ask if they have a truck coming out your way which in turn is going to Geelong.
Cause i had the back half end (near the door) of the truck i was the first to have my stuff dropped off which worked out great cause i followed the truck straight from Melb to the front door of my Ballarat house
I had friends live in Clifton Springs just out of Geelong ... was really nice but i think maybe more an expensive area of Geelong (i'm just guessing due to the price of the house they had there )
P.S - When DP & i moved to Ballarat we knew NO ONE ... but met many people along the way after having our DD through playgroups, etc ...
Hi, we have just decided to move to geelong and bought a house in highton, very nice area, also Newtown is nice and Waurnponds.
We are hoping to move in the next week or so (waiting on sale of our current house) anyone know where we can hire a truck from, having lots of problems finding one in the geelong area.
