Can someone help figure out potiential moving costs???
There is a 'possibility' of a move on the horrizon for me and my family. Nothing definite yet. Hopefully, if there is, work will pay to relocate us, however It is possible that we will need to relocate ourselves. It has been a long while since we last made a big move, and we only had a two week onld baby to worry about then, not the four munchkins we have now. So I am wondering what kind of costs we might be up for (and any rough ballpark figures anyone might have). The move would be from Canberra to BrisVegas.
So far I have:
Removalist: (no idea of cost????)
Bond for rental in Brisbane: approx $2000
2 weeks rent in advance???: $900-1000
????
{{see, I really have no idea!!! What else am I going to have to think about???}}
Moving costs for approx 2 bedroom house lot were just under $2000, plus about $400 for packing materials and boxes.
Car transport was $690, with things in the car, depot to depot, station wagon, 4x4 or people movers are extra.
Airfares one way for 3 people were $900 (Qantas, all inclusive) + extra baggage allowance $120
Rental car (full size sedan) for 5 days was $600+
I stayed with friends for the first week until we could move in, but it was estimated 2+ weeks for removalists to bring everything, they were 10 days early.
Car took 8 days.
Allow for utility connection fees in first bills etc.
$100 to transfer Foxtel connection, excluding installing points in new house.
$299 to cancel Foxtel contract
Hope that helps! Like I said, this was cross country, so should be cheaper east coast. Full size house lot though is exxy, look into a self-hire container, they were between $2200 and $2800. They drop the container, you pack it, they pick it up, transport it, set it down, you unpack they collect the container. That is for about 2-3weeks.
A few years ago we moved Adelaide - Canberra (and then back again 9 months later....but that's another story). It cost 4k(ish) for them to move all our stuff (full 3 bed house, two living areas and lots of shed/outside stuff).
