Yes, it's worth thinking about.

We had polished floor boards in an old house that we lived once, but it's no comparison to floating floors. The "real" wood floors always scratched, dented, splintered and what not. The laminate (floating) flooring was soooo much better (it seems to be "harder" than normal wooden floors). My mum recently put laminate flooring in - she used the kind that had tiny, tiny little grooves in it (grooves where basically invisible, but it stopped you from slipping!) Really clever! My dog much prefered those to the normal ones .
