We are also 'owned' by the bank. Mortgage payments about $2300 a month, but half of that is being paid by our tenants while we are overseas. That's whe reason we are overseas....to be mortgage free I have never rented....don't want to pay someone elses mortgage (but I'll happily let someone pay some of mine!)

Rent $380 pw. Its quite a large house tho. We rent off my dad and pay what he would get with anyone else in it less the agents fees. Although if they need to up the rent anytime soon i think we'll be looking elsewhere!

Own, we pay approx $1000 per month on home loan.
BUT - that doesn't include the cost of council rates, sewerage & water + maintenance that you also pay when you're the owner.
When we had tenants in they were paying $280/week so some months we didn't even break even.

    Rent.
Don't get angry.... $50 a week for a 5 bedroom (could be changed to 7 bedrooms if required) homestead. BUT we are 100kms from the nearest regional centre. I don't get garbage collection, My mail gets delivered about 3kms down the road, I live on a dirt road with a really long driveway and we live on dam and rain water.

It's great.... but it's hard when you want to do normal things, and with the price of fuel it would nearly even out to what we'd pay for a reasonable place in town.

We too are "owned" by the bank! Hopefully own at least a few doors and things by now! $1963 per month or $453 per week on a $278,000 loan, we have been in the house for 3 years and now owe about $269,000...such a slow process. I think we would get around $295,000-300,000 for it now if we sold and had the outside finished... Hopefully we can start paying some extra off next year! To rent this house we would probably be looking at around $375ish per week.

We paid $520 a fortnight on a mortgage of $147,000. But we bought just before the property boom started and we were paying more then we needed to. Lost that house and now rent a small 3 bed house for...wait for it....$400 a week, and that is at the bottom end of price for a 3 bed here, median about $470. You don't come here to save.

We pay $260 a week rent on a 1 1/2 bedroom unit. It's soooo tiny, we can't even fit a dinner table in... We eat on the couch (sad, hey?). But it's a nice neighbourhood and really close to town (15 minutes). Last year we paid $220 a week for a big three bedroom house with garden... Ohh the prices have changed!!

Trying to save for a house atm...

    Paying the bank back

We pay $355 a week in mortgage repayments. We are out of town though so end up paying about $100 a week in petrol.

We are considering (Seriously considering) selling and renting back in town.

We are renting. Small coastal holiday town, with basics, but 12kms from hospital, supermarkets, petrol etc.
We pay $255 a week for 3brms, ensuite, rumpus room, big yard & double garage. I'm very happy with the price ($265 in September).
In the towns 12 & 25kms away we'd pay well over $300 a week for this place.

Renting at the moment $260 per week for a 3br 2 bathroom basic house around 40km from CBD.
We also have a land mortgage that is $500 per month interest only.
When our house is finished in Dec our full mortgage will be around $2500 a month - yikes!
