I'm moving from WA back to NSW. For others who've gone this far, how did you do it?
When I came over I brought a trailer with very minimal stuff in it. This time I want to keep my stuff. I've worked hard to get what I have & even though I'm sure I could make some good money selling it all (most of it being very new), I'm not interested in starting all over again. I've done that plenty of times.
So mum has offered to drive a truck over for me. But I haven't been able to find one way hire that'll give me a quote yet. Or I hire (or put money in for dad to buy) a 10x6 trailer & tow it over. That's probably what will happen.
But I've heard of container removals & I'm wondering if anyone has any experience there.
Or if anyone has the name of a removalist that has better rates than $5900 :/
I'm also looking into back loads, but the one I have so far isn't that much cheaper.
I went with Wridgways - quote was about half what you have now. They were great. I had about a 3 bedroom house worth of stuff.
Containers were too big for me, but again, the price was about half what you have been quoted already.
Having the car shipped over was about $800 all up I think from memory, maybe a little less.
I did get a few quotes for driving a truck over with Budget and Hertz, was going to cost me the same as the removalist, but that wouldn't have included petrol, other travel expenses, and was not an option for me as it was just me and the girls. But you can do it straight from their websites, you don't need to speak with anyone. Just select the "drop at different location" I think.
We used Allied Pickfords. It was $10 000 but that included two containers, removalists to completely pack and unpack and moving our car from central NSW to Darwin and 3 months storage of all our stuff. They packed it straight into the container at our place and unpacked it at our new place.
Do you have a local FB info page or BSS where you can ask for recommendations local to you?
I'm driving the car over. $1000 in petrol for the car v's about $1500 in flights plus the car just isn't worth it.
I'll more than likely just do the trailer again I'd say. One way trailer hire was around $1000 for 10 days. Or I hand dad over the $500 I get selling my trailer & he buys a 10x6 that I take home with my things on it.
I did the drop at different location Lime, but it came back with POA. So I must have to wait for an email. Just assuming it'll be pricey from that!
I think I'll just plan on taking mum with me for back up (less space in the car) & the 10x6 trailer. Just need to find another company with good prices since UHaul now have none left, or find one for dad.. Budget weren't so cheap. About twice the price!
My sister recently used Chess Wilson from Adelaide to Sydney, she was really happy with them. Can't remember the price though. We have used chess and grace but we only moved from Perth to regional wa (and back, twice lol). Work paid for it though so I can't remember the cost exactly but the service was great.
I thought it was Conroys too, but DH says it wasn't...not that he can remember who it was! Started with 'C' as well I think... There was a company we contacted...Backloads r us or something, but they didn't get back to us.
