oh so he;s not actually in Springsure..ok that makes sense

wow thats a bargain for zilzie, maybe you'll have to go to zilzie did you say you have freinds there ?? at least he isn't 7 hrs away so in reality you will have 6 of the 7 days off together rather than 4 or 5

lol thats ok rach your not nosey i love the fact that you care so much xx

yeah nathan is working at rolleston and i was going to rent in springsure as its only like a 10/20 min drive

Yeah i have friends all around rocky, yeppoon, zilzie, calliope area so i can always keep busy on his days away! unlike here....i am very very very much alone and have no one to talk to plus like you said. its a whole lot closer to where he is working, plus being that close we are saving so much! plus that would have to work in my favor when a house does come available in springsure to rent.

I dont really want to buy a house yet as nathan has only just gone onto full time, he has been a contrator for so long. would rather wait a year or two until he has been in his job for awhile IYKWIM?

thanks heaps rach for all your help today and to everyone else, it means alot xxx

    HI MUMMY2CHLOE
I am going to reply before I read everyone elses thoughts, so maybe this is nothing new. This is what I would do:

I would want to be together as a family. And with a 7 days on 7 days off roster, living in really cheap rent...what is stoipping you from going to the beach during his 7 days off...even camping by the beach is fun? Obviously not every week off, but some weeks off, you might be able to go somewhere else as a family.

And the small school sounds like great opportunity...you would soon meet others.. And because you are renting...if it doesn't work out you can always move to the beach later....

now I have read the thread: oh maaaan! bummer...i hope you can find a place soon. I am not familiarvwith the area, so can't help with ideas or knowing people who might be renting...

    all the best

    Hi sweets!!

I have been on whereis.com.au and realestate.com.au to try to help you find something!!!

I am so sorry you can't find anything!! Maybe in Zilzie try to find a 6mth lease?

I wish I had some magical answer or I owned a house you could rent..

    Good luck!!

Thanks heaps everyone you all rock!!!

BUT it seems this nightmare just keeps getting better

The fella we had lined up to drive the truck that we are going to hire.......cant do it anymore and we have no one else that can drive it for us
why does it have to be so bloody hard!!
renting a truck was the cheaper way of doing it cos money is seriously tight and now i have no idea what we are going to do?! its way to expensive to get removalists in and dh cant drive the truck cos he doesnt have a MR or HR license.

nothing is every simple or easy is it!

plus on a complete different note.....i still have 2 mini foxies for sale and NO ONE wants them if they dont sell in the next 6 days i have to fork out MORE money to get there 2nd vaccinations

    I GIVE UP!!!!

My honest opinion is it is not great long term for a marriage to be appart so much - I think you should move in with him. ETA Oops, helps to read to the end of the thread first! Hope it all works out for you soon!

I can understand why you wouldn't want to rent in Emerald, prices are pretty high up there! BUT, after the flood, you might be able to find something that is a short term rental, so you could then get out sooner if you find something over in Springsure. Coming over here (Btown) would be even more insane with the average rental in town being $750 per week, plus you want to stay away from here too don't you? I would suggest Comet, but finding rental there would be worse than Springsure, plus you would have to travel to take DD to school everyday Actually, i think they have a school at Comet? Handful of students so plenty of one on one attention there. I think you would have an easier time buying some land around Comet then renting there..

Does Nathan have a workmate who has their MR/HR licence and would help out for a weekend, throw in some beer, a bbq or something similiar when you are settled in to say thankyou maybe?

Another option could be to ring some real estate agents in Emerald,& Blackwater and see if they deal with rentals in Springsure. Ask them to take your details down just in case someone comes in with a rental?? Also what about Housing Qld (Housing Commission?) I'm sure they have places in Springsure. as to if there are any available or not? i don't know?

Does the minesite have their own rentals out there? Sometimes they will hand out short term accommodation of 6-12 months. Though I think it is more for the management/OCE types..but worth a try, and you never know, a friendly chat with an office girl might give you some helpful info. There is always someone who has a house to rent in these towns that never make it past a friendly chat in the street to a real estate agent.

Get Nathan to put a notice up on the board at work.

And finally, I will try my hardest to get out tomorrow and get the Emerald paper and see if there are any Springsure rentals listed in there for you
    Great ideas!!
With the truck, can you gey the next size down where you don't need a special license? I know there is a smaller truck anyone could drive, it may mean more trips but that's gotta be cheaper than renting!!
sweets... I honestly wish and pray that something awesome comea up fpr you!!
    Xx

Ok, so I got the Emerald paper, hoping to find something in there and there was nothing I thought there might be something in the notices, something private maybe? but no... The only thing i found was a house for sale in springsure...
there is a story about how the Mayor is disgusted that the rent in Emerald has soared after the flood...So that may not be such a great option to go there?

I did see a notice that someone put in the paper looking for a rental, or caretaking of property, so that could be something else to do to..place an add, mention you have a dog (this ad mentioned their dogs) you want something for 6-12 months or shorter/longer and see if anyone replies...you never know, someone may be sitting out there thinking about doing something like this, and your ad could be what they are looking for

thank you so much for going and getting the paper! Had a massive talk with nathan last night and we have decided that i will still try and get a house at the beach, at least its still getting us closer and hopefully it wont be to long before something comes available out at springsure!
I really dont want to live to close to B'water cos as you know nic.....my ex hubby and allllll of his family still live there and i really really really dont want to be anywhere near them lol springsure is still to close for comfort lol but thank you anyway comet would of been great, cos i still have alot of friends there....but way to close!

Also nathan is going to go and get his MR truck licence next week, so thats a bonus which will come in handy for when i do finally move out to springsure....we wont need to get anyone to help us, we can do it all ourselves wooohoo!

Mrs Bexie thank you hun, for your help and coming back in here to offer more support xxx you, nic and rach are allllllllll awesome xxxx

No probs DS had a great time standing on the highway corner watching the trains and trucks drive past...I think he thought that's all I went to the papershop for lol..
The beach sounds good, like you said, at least it gets you all closer. Is Nathan allowed to drive home after shift finish or does he have to hang around in camp for a few hours first?
BIG YAY for getting the MR licence too..

I live in a small town..... ( LOL I wouldn't even call it a town.... its got one house within the city limits signs and it's not even mine! )
I have found around these rural parts, there are usually many empty houses but people aren't really that fussed about renting them out as such. There are many more people around here who prefer the private rental thing, otherwise are happy to just leave places empty.
Does the place you are wanting to go to have a local paper/newsletter? I wanted to find a rental a little closer to my ILs, so I wacked an ad in the local newsletter and got 10 phone calls within the first 3 days. We were offered a house very cheaply that we will be moving into in April/May. There was not one advertised rental within a 100km radius of where I am now and had I not put something in the newsletter, we'd never have found out about any of them.

Good luck!! I hope something pops up for you very soon.
