Have your pets travelled before? Dogs should not be too bad, just remember to take a bowl for them to drink out off. Cats are different. The meowing for hours on end can send you batty. See if your local vet has something that may help to calm them. Also make sure carriers are very secure, the cardboard ones really don't work that well and you end up with a cat moving around the car.
I drove from bris to the ACT with two cats. highly recommend getting them frieghted rather than drive. You will have difficulty finding a motel to stop at. 15 hours driving straight with meowing cats will drive you crazy... if you do tranq them, it will only last part of the journey, THEN you have to deal with how to get the cat out of the cage to tranq them again. If you have a car full of stuff, this can be tricky.
Mind you I did the trip solo. Take some good music unless u like to listen to talk back radio.
You may also need to book into a cattery at the other end, depending on who you are staying with.
Gas bottles etc won't/can't be freighted, so you have to carry them in your car, and anything like cleaning fluids can't go with the removalists.
If you do decide to drive the whole way with cats meowing in the car (and they will drive you crazy after about 8hrs), I wouldn't worry too much about litter trays or even food. You can offer water, but depending on where you plan to put the cats, they will either knock the water over or it will get spilt if you go around corners sharply.
Personally, I would never attempt the drive again with pets - I'd pay a company that specialises in animal removals and get htem to book them into a cattery for you at the other end - no fuss, no worries. - the issue though is that you need a screw down cat carry cage, not the clip ones. good luck.
