Has anyone here had 4 or more csects?
Have you had any classical incisions?
What was your experience like?
We are TTC #5 (my 4th child and 4th csect it will be) I've been told it will be a classical incision and have to be my last due to lots of scar tissues, complications with the prev surgery, how thin my uterus is etc etc etc.. we have had a second opinion on this but are going to seek a third independant one as the second was at the same place as the first. We would like more children so are hoping we can have another bikini incission to increase our chances of being able to have another child.
Has anyone experienced anything like this.. been told they'll need a classical and thennot afterall
my mother has had 8 c-sections. I do not believe she was ever told about a thin uterine wall in her case though, so I don't know what to tell you about that. She had all bikini incisions, and she said that the recovery was different with each one. Some of the later ones were better than the earlier ones, probably due to her health, doctor's skill, baby's position, how much she was able to rest, etc. All went well with the first 7. In fact with her seventh pregnancy, the doctor offered her a trial of labour! (Which she had begged for with her second and third babies, but was denied.) She didn't feel safe taking that option after six, (nor would I), so it was another c-sect.
Anyways, with her 8th, she ended up with placenta percreta, where the placenta adheres to the scarred portion of the uterus and grows through it. It pervaded her bladder as well, and caused major haemorrhaging and required her to be hospitalized at 19 weeks. In many cases, the recommendation is that the pregnancy be terminated. However, my parents would not do that, and her condition was never actually diagnosed conclusively until delivery. At 28 weeks, after another couple of major bleeds, my brother was born. They did a total hysterectomy and bladder repair. (BTW - my brother is a happy, healthy 8 year old now.)
Placenta percreta or accreta is a danger with a scarred uterus, and I think you should be aware of the risk, and factor that into your decision making as well. I'm not saying you shouldn't have more children - just make a well-informed decision, and get a good OB!
Try googling caesarian and thin uterus, or placenta accreta, and see what further info you can come up with to discuss with your doctor.
Ive had 5 if you include having my tubes reversed Charmaine
I have had all my c/s cut in the same spot...bikini line.
I had 2 c/s and then a tubual reversal (different topic )
My 3rd c/s was fantatic...i had not after pains at all and was up and about 4 hours after having my daughter.
As for my 4th c/s, I was in agony afterwards and still suffer alot of pain internally.
I also had my tubes removed this time round but i had to beg the doctors to take them out as they said I was still able to have more c/s and hench children if I wished. No thanks as Cricket said - the more c/s you have the higher the risk of complications.
Cricket - your mum deserves mother of the yar! WOW 8 c/s...unreal!
thanks for the reply sounds like your 3rd csect was a dream, pity the 4th wasnt though :S
They want to do my tubes when we have our next bub but I dotn want them to, I know we 'cant' have anymore after that but I dont think I can deal with having that done!
Charmaine - i had a tubal ligation done with my last child, delivered by c-section, and I regret doing it. not because I want anymore children, but because of the ongoing pain and discomfort I have had since AF returned 3months after Aston was born. Just something to consider - do your research, and don't let anyone push you into doing something you don't want to do!
I had my 3rd C's 4 months ago and was told during surgery that my uterus was very thin and see through. I asked at my 6 week check up about having one more and he didn't recomend it because of the risks involved, however he said should I choose to have another baby I would need to go to a major hospital and be constantly monitored. Like you I was told I should have my tubes tied but I just can't bring myself to do it and I know there are side effects.
I would like to have one last baby but I think I've reached my limit both physically and emotionally and I'm feeling my age now
Good luck with your future plans what ever they may be
