    C/S and Denture

I have a partial denture as I lost one of my big front teeth in my last pregnancy. Do you think they will make me remove it for the C/S?

My Ob said I will be having a spinal block so I thought perhaps the anesthetist might let me leave it in.

I am so paranoid without it as I think I look hideous. I know I shouldn't care but I really think I would die of embarrassment without it.

I will ask my Ob next Monday but wondered if anyone else had any ideas to put my mind at ease.

I can't quite remember, but I think it was a question on the forms that they get you to fill in before the operation...

    I think...

Memory is a BIT sketchy these days (not cos it was so long ago, but lack of sleep mainly!!)

So maybe they might question you?

At the hospital I work in, people having spinals with no sedation are allowed to keep dentures and partial dentures in. If it becomes an emergency and they need to put an airway in, they either work with the dentures in or rip them out. Some anethetists prefer to keep them in anyway due to the jaw support it provides.

Nail polish is a no no because it blocks the light on the probe we put on the finger to measure how much oxygen is in your body. Red is the worst offending colour. Most hospitals allow pale or clear polish but remove it all just in case.

Jewelry is a no no for infection control reasons. However, wedding rings and earings can be taped. Other body piercing depends on the location of the piercing Vs the location of the surgery.

If in doubt, contact the anethetist who will be caring for you and ask their receptionist...

    Dont worry Leelot!
I second mother goose. I work in this setting and you will almost 100% be able to keep it in. Even if you do have a general anaesthetic and artificial airway inserted most anaesthetists prefer to keep them in nowadays to help keep your mouth structure and protect your other teeth. Do talk to them about your concerns at the time though and they will be able to reassure you about your concerns .HTH

Thanks ladies that is SOOOOOOO helpful. I feel better now. I was hoping that this would be the case but of course I am worrying over the smallest things at the moment.
