    Do they recut old scar?

    Hi girls,

    I am almost 14 weeks pregnant with my 4th child and this will be my 2nd c/s. I am just curious do they cut along the same scar or do the make a new cut?

    In my case they cut along the old one. Do you mind me asking why you are having another C/S??? and not a

    Yes they do cut along the same scar. They actually take the scar tissue out as trying to heal old scar to old scar doesn't heal as well as healthy skin. Its the same with the uterus scar also. They take the old scar out (usually only a few mils of tissue) that is why they suggest you don't have more then 4 C/S as every one you have after the first the uterus is getting that tiny bit smaller. Obviously this is not a problem the first few times but after multiple C/S you can imagine the decreased size of the uterus and thats why your at greater risks of prem labour/placental insufficency and rupured uterus when you have more then 4 C/S. In saying this I have seen women have more then 4 C/S and have minimal complications.

    I learnt this from working in theatre and seeing them cut the old scar out from both the skin and the uterus and asking why. I actually haven't seen any info on it in my midwifery days. Will have to look it up though and confirming the info says the same thing.

    See these are the things no-one tells you about. This right here is why I am going back to study my RN and Midwiffery(when bubs is bigger) so I can ensure mothers get all this info that I missed out on

    Thats scary! I've had 3 c-s and am planning my fourth in about 12 months.

    i'll be getting my tubes tied after number 4.
