DTD after an emergency CS ? were things the same down there? (sorry TMI)
Okay, so this is going to get a little bit personal. DH and I tried to DTD last night for the first time since DS was born. Now I don't know if it is because we haven't done it for awhile (probably since I was about 6 months preg) or if things are different down there, but it was really uncomfortable. The pressure on a certain point towards the back gave me the sensation of needing to go wee and the overall feeling was quite uncomfortable generally. The best way I can describe it is as a burning sensation, but that isn't really accurate because it wasn't what I'd think of if someone said it was burning sensation IYKWIM. DH also said that he thought when he pulled out a bit that the skin/flesh seemed looser or to move with him, but he couldn't really explain what he meant really well either...
I was induced after a hind water leak and got to about 7cm but DS was posterior and his head had gone in at a bad angle so that it was at the widest point. As a result I had to have an emergency CS after about 11 hours of labour (the last six or so which were with an epidural).
Now I had thought that because I hadn't given birth things would be much the same down there - is that generally the case? Or could things have been affected because I did get quite dilated? Or does it have to do with my pelvic floor being weaker (mind you they are pretty good cos I did my exercises all the way through my preg and still am)? Or could it be something to do with the catheter? Or is it just that we haven't done it for a long time and I'm a bit out of shape?
Anyway, I'm just wondering if others who have had CS's have had similar experiences when they DTD for the first time after...
I was thinking along the same lines as AJP. I definitely had less natural lubrication while breastfeeding, but otherwise DTD after my emergency c/s was just like before. I only dilated to 4 or 5cm, but I wouldn't have thought that would make much difference.
my first experience DTD afterwards sounds like yours- painful! I spoke to the doc about it and they said what the PPs said, due to BFing hormones its drier than usual, they gave me a hormone cream to use, but I was too scared it would muck with my supply so didnt use, just lots of lubrication, take things slowly, keep up your pelvic floor exercises, I found DTD to actually be a lot more pleasurable for me afterwards too, once we got all that sorted out anyway!
We DTD five weeks after emerg CS. It was Ok unitl I had an orgasm! Oh My Gracious! That was the most horrible pain ever! Obviously the O contracted my uterus and of course the scar and wow was that a bad plan! Didnt try again for many, many months...
I agree with the breastfeeding affecting how things feel down there as well as being a bit more anxious too.
After 2 emergency c/s I can honestly say that it can take 6-8 months to get back to "normal" if you are BF. It is now only starting to be good-ish again for me. Last time was more like 8 months.
We DTD about 7 wks after my emerg c-section. No pain here but definitely less natuaral lubrication. No pain on orgasm either thankfully. We just took it slowly and were mainly careful position wise not to hurt my tummy and scar more than anything.
I got to fully dilated and ready to push by the time they realised DS was breech (stayed at home as long as we could).
I haven`t had an emergency c/sec but I have had 2 c/secs and both times it hurt DTD, even after using lots of lube, I just found out 2 weeks ago as to why it was so uncomfortable, apparently when BFing we go into a menopausal state and our estrogen drops away, so my OB prescribed oestrogen cream, I`ve only used it twice then stopped and no more pain.
Thanks for all your replies ladies. I sent DH out on the weekend to invest in some lube. Haven't gotten around to giving it a go yet much to DH's disappointment (must admit I am a little bit nervous about trying again). Anyway we'll see how we go...v
Thanks for the tip on the oestrogen cream Deejoy, if the lube fails I'll chase that up with my doctor.
I have had 3 caesars..1 being an emergency and to tell you the truth yes it hurt when we DTD...BUT 3rd time round...i honestly don't think it hurt as much as after the 1st caesar...
