    Question How many CS?

How many CS's have you had? The reason I ask is that I've had 2 now.........first was a breech baby that turned the day before I was booked but then she never engaged and I had bleeding dramas. The second was another one who never engaged and was in an oblique position. I vaugely recall the Ob going through the risks of the CS when I was signing the consent form this time but I was upset and angry and not listening properly. However, I think he said that the risks were X with a 2nd CS but made the comment that they increased with subsequent ones. Then while in theatre the midwife was explaining to me that it would be interesting to see how I had healed after my first CS as sometimes things get stuck or glued or change position (or something, once again I was emotional and not listening properly.)

Nothing is definate but we aren't ruling out a 3rd child............but is it that much more risky?

I can't speak from personal experience, but I know a good friend was considering a C-section for her first and was told that if she had a C-section then she should plan to have only 3 or 4 children with 4 as her OBs recommended maximum. (She went on to have both her children by C-section and is now finished).

Another friend had an emergency C-section for her first and was advised to have C-sections subsequently. She had 4 planned children (all by c-section) and is now finished due to the risks of another pregnancy. She had her tubes tied, while they were "in there" with her last c -section.

FWIW my SIL just had her 6th C-section!!!!
and has 9 healthy children to show for it ( 3 sets of twins)
this was her final c-section however as the bubs just hung in there - her scar was touch and go- but having 4 c-sections in 4 years could have something to do with it with less than a year in between each one!

My mom had 8 c-sections, and 7 went very well. She said how she felt afterwards changed each time - some later ones were better than earlier ones. It depends on the skill of the surgeon, and the position of the baby, and how much messing around they have to do to get the baby out, etc. She healed very well, and was never told that she shouldn't have more. In fact, with number 7, she was offered a VBAC! (She declined, feeling that the risks were too great.) Her 8th pregnancy became very complicated - the placenta grew through the uterine wall and into her bladder, which caused major bleeding, and required an emergency c-section and hysterectomy at 28 weeks. Baby is now a fine healthy 12 year old. This issue was most likely, although not definitely, caused by the c-section scar.

My aunt had 6 c-sections, but was advised after number 6 that her uterine wall was too thin to have any more.

Anyways, point of the story - there are some risks with any pregnancy after c-section, but talk to your doctor about how your own scar has healed, and go from there. I don't think 3 babies should be a problem at all! And, many women have had a VBA2C.

    Hope that helps!

Oh - and I believe Ethel Kennedy had 11 c-sections. And that was in the '50s!

Just so you know, I've had 2 c-sections, and am preggers with number 3. At no time have I been told that this will have to be the last, nor that I can't have any more. It all depends on the individual person, how the caeser was done and by who, and how well you heal. The first of mine was emergency, second elective, and I recovered pretty well from both. Only 15 months between them. Hope this helps.
I have read the risks and stuff... like higher risk of ectopic pregnancy, miscarraige, placenta previa, baby having asthma later in childhood/adult life... (these are some that I remember reading recently... I am trying to research so i can make an informed decision!)
mind you, i also know many ppl who have had more than 3 caesers with children who are perfect little beauties. Also, depending on the obstetrician, some may even allow you to try for a vbac after 2 c-sections. I supposedly have to play the "odds" game at the moment, only about 30% of the obs at my hospital allow it. We'll have to wait and see closer to the due date I guess. Good luck in TTC, as long as you've healed well,i hope it all goes to plan

I have had 3 with no issues at all. I haven't been told that I can't have more. This 3rd one the recovery took a bit longer but I think that was a combination of getting up earlier than I did with my previous ones and having 2 small children to chase after whilst recovering.

I'll come back then and tell you how my recovery is going

Ive had 3 (1 emergency cs after induction) and 2 elective. I havent been told not to have anymore. I asked about the risks and we were fine, the only thing my OB said was it will take longer to get to the baby due to scaring, then when she was doing the op she actually said theres hardly any scaring! so I was very lucky! and I have recovered well.

I have had 2 emergency cs so far and will be having a elective in late Feb. The elective is my choice as there will only be a 16 mth gap between DS1 and this bub (also a boy) and I am concerned about the risks of a VBAC so soon after my last cs

I've had 2 c-sections and my Ob didn't mention anything about the limit on number of bubs. He did tell me about another patient who has having her 7th c-section. I think it depends more on how your uterus has recovered.
