Subsequent PG after Classical cut C- section??

I was wondering if anyone knows or has had exp with this.. I had a classical cut C-Section to deliver my twins at 24wks and 2 days gestation.. When they were still alive my OB spoke to me about subsequent PG, but because they were still alive & I had such a traumatic labour and delivery.. (9 days in labour as they kept it going for as long as they could.. The longer the bubs were in there the better) I said oh no I will never have anymore!! Anyway I was sure she told me had to wait 2yrs to allow for healing and to prevent my uterus ruptering, but after my bubs died and I went for my 6wk check up I asked again and he only told me I had to wait 12 months.. Now I would really like to try again as it took me 8yrs to concieve Taite and Seth (yes miraculously it was natural!!) But I would hate to fall PG before I am properly healed and therefore probably suffer another loss.. Any advice would be appreciated..

im so sorry to hear of the loss of your boys.

I have heard 12 mth wait between pregnancy, and i think that applies to either type of cut.

I dont know too much else about it except if its any encouragment my mil had 5 vertical cuts and all at pregnancies and deliveries went well.

all the best with your future ttc.

Oh Blessedatlast - I am so truly sorry to hear about your precious twins.

I don't have any experience with the classical cut but as Salsa says, I understand the advice is usually to wait at least 12 months before TTC (although many women do have successful pregnancies and births with shorter intervals). I think the advice re the 2 yrs refers to the birth interval - ie having at least 2 years between the births - which you would achieve if you concieved 15 months after - so possibly there is not that much difference in the advice.

Look after yourself and be extra kind for the next 12 months - get really healthy and being in the best shape possible before TTC will give you the best chance.

I truly wish you all the best,

I think that you need to go and ask your own Drs about this. The classic is a much weaker injury, so the less stress on it the better. I am not 100% on this but i am pretty sure that you can not have a VBAC.. They have to do classics in early labours as the uterus is just too small to do the LSCS.. I also believe that they like to limit how many pregnancies you have...

    Hi Blessedatlast,

Firstly I wanted to say sorry for you losses

I had a classical cut with my emergency c/s with DD1, I was told to wait 2 years before having another baby and that I would only be able to have c/s from now on coz a vbac would put me at risk of a uterine rupture.

I had DD2 3 months ago. I was booked into have my c/s at 38wks but like DD1 I went into labour on my own at 37wks. The hospital was so short staffed that day and I laboured for 6hrs before being taken down to theatre. I was told my uterus ruptured in a + shape. I have now been told I am unable to have anymore kids because of this. They said at first maybe one more child, then changed their mind saying definitely no more, they dont think my body would handle another pregnancy. I am absolutely devasted by this as we really wanted to have more children. I keep thinking if I was taken to theatre earlier it wouldn't have happened.

I don't want to scare you but I would wait 2yrs before getting pregnant again - just to give your scar that extra time to heal.

Good luck with everything, you deserve to hold a beautiful baby in your arms!!!

    Leigh26:

I may not be 100% on this but i have heard women that can go in for an operation to do a new, single scare, so they can have more kids (this is done regularly with women that have already had 4c/s)..... I guess all i am saying is that make sure you do your research if you havent already!

Thank god your baby was OK too! NOt many people have a rupure and take a baby home....
