    Relieving constipation after c-section?

    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has any good tips on relieving constipation after a c-section? I had one last Saturday and I'm sooo blocked up, it's horrible Going to the toilet is really painful and very little or nothing happens, I can't strain much/at all to help things along either and that doesn't help (sorry! tmi...).

I am taking panadeine still and I just read that codeine tends to make you blocked up but I'm not sure I can get by on just panadol (is this normal eight days on?).

Admittedly I want to do something about this pretty quickly. They gave me a laxative in the hospital but I didn't actually need it at that point as there was nothing in my digestive system to come through.

    any suggestions? I'm so uncomfortable!

Try some coloxyl, or some laxettes. Are you drinking enough water??

Lots of water (hot/warm water and and a squeeze fresh lemon juice first thing in the morning helps me go), lots of fruit/veggies, pear juice, prune juice, metamucil/psyllium husk in juice. If it's really bad, go to the pharmacy and ask the pharmasist for some gentle laxatives. The last thing you want would be to have gastro with the pain of a c/sec too.

Lots of water, fresh fruit and vegies and if you are still having trouble take something like Metamucil. I was the same and it was awful. As for pain relief, I can't take anything with codeine in it at all so once I finished up my hospital tablets I just took panadol. How is the pain going with the panadeine? If it is easing it well and you are feeling ok maybe try just alternating with normal panadol with the panadeine and that might help as well?

Dried prunes will be good to snack on until your c-section heals. keep your fluids and fibre up. It's so uncomfortable being blocked up and I hope you feel better soon!

I'm really struggling with the pain I think its because I keep crying a LOT (bubs in SCN, no release date or indication of one) and of course it hits the tummy muscles! Don't know how i'll go knocking it down but am thinking I need to try.

    Thanks everyone!
