This happens to me all the time too! My DH says you need to touch metal before you get out, so say touch the 'door frame' then hop out.
HELP!
Whenever I get out of my car (Honda CRV) I get a static shock. ALWAYS. It doesn't seem to matter if I've done a long or short trip. The shocks are starting to hurt - today's left my finger really sore. Any ideas on why this is happening or how I can minimise it?
Thanks
MG

Thanks girls.
So, If I sit in the car, touch the door frame, it should "earth" the car without zapping me? Is there a way to stop it from getting so charged?
Yep but keep your finger on metal until you're standing.
According to my DH you can't stop it happening unless you have leather seats, it's the fabric rubbing against fabric.
I don't know about stomping it from getting charged, but yeah, just make sure you're touching the frame when you get out.

My MIL has a grounding strap on the back of her car. No idea if it helps but she swears it does.
I have leather seats, but yet I still get zapped all the timeSo if my leg is touching the car frame I won't get zapped?
We have Leather seats and I still get zapped and have zapped the kids before getting them out the car.
Most people use the anti static strap, which can also help with car sickness, according to a friend of mine.
Yes, get an anti-static strip. You attach it to the back of the car (off the tow bar thingy or something) and it discharges the static as you go along the road. Yes it helps prevent car sickness. We have always had these and never had the static thing happen, but we've just got a new car without one and the static zapping is driving me crazy. Plus the static spark is a fire risk if anyone gets out of the car while you're filling up with petrol.
Ooo I am going to buy one of those straps today, what a great idea![]()
