In the hunt for a new car tomorrow

Ok, so it needs to be auto, under $20k.
Any suggestions or recommendations?
I've read a bunch of reviews but they have just left me more confused than ever.
I'm thinking maybe the fiesta?

I think Tinks is right. Corollas are reliable, they have great resale value and they are economical to run.

You will get much better value for money if you get a demo model or near new second-hand car.

I tossed up between a mazda 3 and corolla last year. We went for the mazda.. We paid $22K new, so you should be able to get near new for $20K

ETA my SIL bought a Fiesta the same time we bought ours and loves it.. I am not a Ford fan personally, but she has had nothing but good things to say about it.

I have the i30 and LOVE it!
5yr unlimited km warranty with roadside assist for 12months.
I had a corolla for work and have found the i30 has a bit more room in it (kids still touch the back of the seat with thier feet but not as easily in the i30)
Wouldn't go back

Are you talking brand new? I don't think you can get a brand new corolla under $20000 can you? What about a Ford Focus, I have one and it's roomy and a great car!
ETA not sure you can even get a focus auto under $20000.

You can get a 'not very old' one for under $20,000. Personally, I think you're better off buying a slightly used one because you get more for your $.

Hyundai all the way. We use to be big Toyota fans. But really the Hyundais have come a long way. We have had ours for 18months now and it's a dream.

It needs to be new because I don't have time so source an almost-new and I kind of need to get it done tomorrow because loverboy's car is about to cark (sp?) it.
The car is for him, but somehow the job of finding it is mine. Go figure.

Personally I'd go a corolla, toyota's are quite reliable, great re-sale and not too overly priced for parts.
I've had a Hyundai (yrs ago) and personally wouldn't get another when for the same price I could get a Toyota. IYKWIM!

My first car was a Ford Laser hatchback and loved it! I sold it to SIL as we didn't need 2 cars and she then gave it to FIL who has just got rid of it last year (1995 model) so lasted VERY well and no issues.

Toyota from here as well. But having said that - Mazda is a brilliant car. I loved my Mazda and cried when I sold it (upgraded for a car higher off the ground). If you can get one, you wouldn't regret it.
I was going to suggest the Honday Jazz but I think they're very hard to get at the moment due to the factory flooding...and I'm not sure on the price. But they are a brilliant car. DH has one for work.

Mazda would be my first pick. We just sold our Mazda 3 for $13500 (2005 manual Maxx Sport with low kms) as we decided we didn't need three Mazdas We just have a CX7 and a CX9 now which are awesome but I'm not sure you'd get a CX7 for under $20k and you definitely wouldn't get a 9 but the 3 you could for sure. They are a brilliant little car and surprisingly roomy.

A friend of mine had an Hyundai i30 before they moved overseas a year ago and it was a brilliant little car. It's a bit smaller than the Mazda 3 and had a much smaller boot but it's a great little run around.

You wouldn't get a CX7 for under $30 000 let alone $20 000. The new CX5 are still around the $30 000 mark on road. And a 3 is over $20000 for an on road auto too sadly.

Um, that's what I said. But I was also referring to second hand cars. Should have stipulated that in my post. You can most definitely get a second hand 3 for under $20k and possibly a 7 that is a standard model with a decent amount of kms
