I personally believe that everyone should carry a first aid kit in their car, and a good kit will include a pair of scissors in them. We always carry ours and it has come in handy a few times, nothing so potentially tragic as this though.

Lol, would you believe that I totally forgot about the scissors in the first aid kit?
In an emergency I'll probably be the one running off to the lonely farmhouse and getting killed by the waiting axe murderer.

They say you should also carry a tool that breaks glass (can't remember its name but it's a special little device that you ping on the window and it breaks). That way if you go into a creek/river, you and your kids have a fighting chance.

I have a first aid kit that includes scissors and I keep an old towel under the seat. I hate to be unprepared and its these kind of instances that you never know are going to happen.

I know it sounds like a good idea but has anyone tries to cut a seatbelt with scissors? It's actually pretty hard. When I was in the fire brigade, I cArried a multi purpose tool that had a special seat belt cutter on it. It lived in my car until I got the new car last year...must find it and put it back in the glove box!
