True, well include that too then. My car costs exactly $100 to fill and its a weird amount like 64 litres or close... I put $50 in and get half a tank.... proper unleaded too not E10....

Petrol here is $1.46 a litre on a cheap day when I get petrol

might be a better comparison to do L per 100km's -

ours does about 10.5L per 100km's - v6 4wd

Yep our SUV is about 10-11L/100Kms it's a V6.

ummmm a Hyundai ummmm lantra i think (can't check - DH has just taken it to pick up DD)

we've had it since about September last year, and we have put maybe 150 in it in that time. i take it to work, PO, next town over (about 25k round trip) and two or three times a fortnight, DH takes it to drop DD at Granma's, do his running around and then pick her up (about 65ks for the day). it is really economical! not bad for a car that we brought as a second hand second car - i think they severely undervalued themselves given it was twice as much on the web than we got it for - the "cheap" one we initially went to look at had a heftier price tag - we took the car same day!

I have a ford falcon BA station wagon. When filled, it says I can get around 510km from the tank. I generally fill it when I hit 80k to go as that is when the petrol light starts beeping at me. I usually fill it every couple of weeks or more. Don't go far in it, and could go even less further in it if I walked some more

ive got a fairmont ghia and i put in $50 coz i cant be bothered filling it and i get about 170 kms out of it..... fuekl guzzler it is! i hate the dam thing but while DD is rear facing its gotta stay, roll on next year and ill be looking for a 2lt buzz box again!

but next time i do put fuel in ill take more notice of the litres and kms....

Yep, I will give it a go. Mine is close to empty.....it has two tanks, so I will fill one up and just put $50.00 in the other and see how far the $50 gets me first. I know I get two weeks on the full tanks and I do quite a bit of running around, but not sure how many kms that is. I have always thought it was quite reasonable for the car it is (Landcruiser) but I could be in for a shock!

We have a Volvo V70, it is a 5 cylinder, 2.5L Turbo. Does at the moment about 11-13L/100km, but it is due for a major service, so I expect it will be back down to its average of 10-12L/100km after that is done.

I run all my cars to dead empty at least once, means I know exactly how far the petrol light will take me if necessary, but we have only had the car a couple of weeks and I haven't had a chance yet.

The type of driving has a MASSIVE impact on fuel economy.

My subaru forester will just stretch a tank to about 500km around town. After a trip to Canberra and back, where it was filled up half way there, it's done 520km and still has at least a quarter of a tank.

My father would swear by the fact that a regular freeway trip for his car would help its fuel economy even when it's just running around town. He used to call it letting the car "stretch its legs" and it did seem to make a difference. His fuel economy improved, not just for the tank that did the freeway trip, but for a few afterwards as well. Might just have been that car, haven't put it to the test myself. I don't keep records as accurate as my father, either - he has a little book in the glovebox where he records the date, the km travelled and how much fuel he's put into the tank. Of course, he always fills the tank completely every time he goes, doesn't work if the budget is tight and you can only put say $10 in to get through the next couple of days.
