Petrol Challenge - Will you participate?

In light of todays events which had me unable to get my car out of my driveway due to Running out of Petrol It got me thinking about how much you actually get for the amount of fuel or money you put in...

I put $50 in, and got 333km before it died .... Im not suggesting running your car until EMPTY , Dumbest thing I have done so far in my WHOLE life but ....

I was thinking BB members could measure how many kms they get for the fuel they put in. Im interested to see what cars are more economical... and it will surely be amusing to see the difference in car types, 4 cylinders, V6,V8, diesel fuel etc

    So please join in ...

I have a Holden Statesman and for $50 I got 333km to empty ( it lasted a week)
and now I have put in $55 petrol, ( needed $15 to get it off empty and START and then topped up with $40.00 and reset my km thingy )

I always run my car until empty, just the way the cash cow rolls here. So I know that in a 70 litre tank of unleaded, I get around 480 - 515kms from a tank. I haven't filled it for a while, but can come back and update on the weekend when I do. The last time I filled up it cost me $92. It hurts!

Tough one to do, as it also depends on the type of driving you are doing. Lots of highway driving is more ecomomical that city driving. So someone in the country would on average get more km out of the same type of car than someone in the city.

True, well include that too then. My car costs exactly $100 to fill and its a weird amount like 64 litres or close... I put $50 in and get half a tank.... proper unleaded too not E10....

Petrol here is $1.46 a litre on a cheap day when I get petrol

might be a better comparison to do L per 100km's -

    ours does about 10.5L per 100km's - v6 4wd
the little sports wagon i don't know - haven't tested since we got it - runs on the sniff of an oily rag. i put half a tank in about 6 weeks ago and just doing work and round the town trips, i still have about 1/8 of a tank now

I can get anywhere between 350 and 450kms a tank, depending on where I'm driving. I use 98 octane petrol all the time.

Driving approx 2,000 kms (90% of that highway driving) cost me about $160 at Christmas time, but the petrol was cheaper then.

I filled the tank on the weekend and it cost me approx $60. If I wasn't driving all over Victoria this weekend it would last me a couple of weeks, but I expect to have to fill it by the time Sunday afternoon comes around.

I drive a Mazda 3 and it loves to tell me how economical it is. Apparently since i bought it, it averages 9.6L/km. Saving Dolphins.
I can get an extra 100 (yes one hundred) kms after the fuel light comes on. It comes on at about 450kms. That annoys me.

Be kind to your vehicles ladies and try not to let it run almost empty as it can cause damage to them (but I get that sometimes lack of $$ prevent some of us from doing so. Just a FYI).

I have an 03 toyota land cruiser. If I fill both tanks it costs me $200 bucks and I get around 800-900kms from it. (if DH gets in it, that's another story.)
No idea how many L that is per 100km sorry! Someone feel free to work it out for me XD

As for letting your car run off fumes, you shouldn't XD you'll start sucking all the crap up in the bottom of your tank and it'll get stuck through your fuel lines and make your car run like dogs balls.

I have seen the low fuel warning come on - which gives me about 40kms to re-fuel.

I also get a 'very low fuel' warning which gives me 5 kms to re-fuel. Admittedly I've only seen that one once .

I have a V6 commodore wagon. I think when I put $20 in it its tells me I have around 280 kms. Can't remember & only put $30 in it today, lol.
    I'll pay attention next time.

My car averages about 9.8 litres/100kms. We have a 75 litre tank from memory & I think we get around 680kms a tank. I think I'll try regular unleaded instead of E10 next time to see if it does last longer.

Cruise control can make a difference as well. We find the Commodore can be quite efficient when we can just sit on 100kph, if we are stuck behind someone who can't decide if they are doing 90 or 105, the fuel gets chewed up. We are noticing it with the new Swift, it does not have cruise control, whilst the Colt did. With about 3/4 of DH's driving being at 100kph, is makes a significant difference.
