Does anybody know when a Roadworthy officially takes effect? I've looked on the Vic Roads website but can't find anything. We took our car in about 4wks ago, he initially quoted $1,100 but it went up to $1,800 so I spoke to him to see whether we could pay it off and that was fine. I know that the car was ready 1wk ago and we are picking it up this Friday but the Roadworthy expires that day . Doesn't seem right that he dated the Roadworthy when the car wasn't finished so now I'll have to pay another $110 to get another certificate.
it goes by the date on the certificate. It should be longer than a week though.
After the 1st inspection you have an amount of time to fix any problems then after the 2nd inspection, if the problems are fixed, the certificate is issued by the mehcanic.
the certificate can be issued the day it is examined, and repairs must be done within 7 days and then rexamined by the assessor.
the certificate lasts for 30 days from when it is issued.
if the same people who assessed it were doing the repairs, i would ask if they can reduce the costs on the 2nd roadworthy cos they don't actually have to assess it again cos it hasn't been out of their hands since approving the repairs.
Yep, we had the first inspection 4wks ago, then he completed all the work last week so I don't understand how it has already expired. They are for 28 days so he has dated the certificate whilst the car wasn't finished.
I cannot believe this mechanic, I rang on Wednesday and asked if he could prepare another roadworthy so that today I could pick up the car and would be finished. Called a taxi this morning, arrive at the workshop and it is closed, find a sign which says business closed will re-open next Thursday . Why on earth didn't he tell me, who actually closes down their business for a week, now we will be without the car for another week, unbelievable.
Well we finally got the car back on Friday complete with Roadworthy Certificate, minus 1/4 tank of petrol, minus water motor for the windscreen and the hazards don't work. He was so kind he did the second roadworthy free only because we caught him out. DS rang to say we would be coming at 4.00p.m to pick up the car but we arrived at 3.00p.m to find our car not there. Apparently one evening they needed a water motor for another car and the wreckers were closed so they took it off our car and one of the boys had driven our car to the wreckers to get another motor which they didn't have. Luckily for us DS has now taken it off our wreck and put it in. Another little bonus, it's making a weird noise that it never made before. So we have the car but can't drive because all our money went to paying it off and I have no money to put petrol in it until next Friday. So needless to say I will NOT be recommending this mechanic to anybody.
I seem to have missed this thread . Contact the VACC about him. They take a very dim view of dodgy rw mechanics. Also inform thrm of the other issues you have wih the car since getting it back.

hun, what a PITA - he should have told you he would be closed, i would be rather furious
