Do Centrelink help if you need to move to work if your looking for work is a voluntary employment pathway?

    short answer - no

long answer, if you have a guaranteed job, you may be able to get a small advance to help relocate to start the job - but it's very small (special employment advance)

WR has no obligation to look for work to get her payment (so she isn't on the dole in a nutshell) - she was asking if centrelink will pay relocation costs for her if she gets a job. the answer is no. the special employment advance is bugger all - generally enough to make a trip or pay for uniforms - not all the costs associated with moving

and it comes out of future entitlements, and if you dont' have future entitlements the balance may be raised as a debt

This is how people get stuck in small dead-end towns with no prospects, its hard to get out especially if you have a house and a family.

We did it by buying an obscenely cheap house in a much better town, and renting our previous house out to people who didn't mind living in a small dead-end town (they were an older couple on DSP/carers) and now we're in a much better situation, but moving is a pain - the hardest part is trying to find accommodation *before* you move when you're not local to where you want to go ...

Some of the charities will help with moving costs, but they're pretty stretched these days.

Hi, my name's Marian and I work at Centrelink in a team answering questions posted in online forums, and through social media.

As Briggsy's Girl pointed out, you might be eligible for a Special Employment Advance depending on your circumstances. For more info about that contact the Centrelink Family Assistance Office on 13 6150.

It might also be worth checking, if you've been linked to a Job Services Australia provider, depending on your level of support they might be able to assist you with funding for moving costs if you have confirmed, ongoing employment. It's called an Employment Pathway Fund and you can find more info about it here; Stream services

Hope that helps, all the best!
