    Centrelink Q

Just done our 09/10 return and wondering if we have to contact centrelink or will they just work out what they owe us and pay it? Been about 6 weeks since our returns were lodged but haven't heard anything from centrelink...

They will adjust their payments once they have received your tax information and they crosscheck the info. Give it a few more weeks and then ring them. Depending whether you have under estimated or over estimated determines whether you have to pay or they pay you

We grossly overestimated and only receive the minimum fortnightly payment so should get something back. Thanks, I'll leave it for a couple more weeks

We just did our 09/10 tax in feb and I think I got our adjustment at the beginning of may so I'd allow about 3 months before worrying too much. We had overestimated as well, I'm sure if we owed them money they'd be in touch a lot quicker!

if you've got your notice of assessment and it's been more than about 3 weeks since it's been issued, give FAO a call and they'll try and force it through over the next couple of weeks. there have been instances of it taking months because ATO take longer to process the tax return but if you have both notices of assessment, give fao a buzz to follow up on your reconciliation result
