baby bonus gets paid to the primary care giver :-) and it's paid in installments not all at once. first pay is $800 and something then you get paid $300 and something fortnightly until you have been paid $5000 (6 months I think it takes all up)

this is not correct - it is paid to the parent that claims it - you don't have to be the primary carer. there are many families in which one parent claims ftb, but the other is the primary care giver of the children (as is the case in my family) - if we were to have another child, it would still be me claiming baby bonus and ftb as it's far simpler for all involved to not mess about and move the family payments from one to another. it is also VERY common in some cultures for the man to be the one receiving the payment and dealing with all financial things, while the woman raises the child/ren. for each additional child, she remains the primary carer, but he claims the baby bonus.
