FTB A can be paid up until a dependent child is 24. To receive FTB for a dependent child between ages 16-24, they must be a full time student and meet the child income test.
However, the rate of FTB drops SIGNIFICANTLY when the child turns 16 and most low income families will be better off claiming Youth Allowance for their child once they turn 16.
Recipients of Parenting Payment Partnered who were granted AFTER 01/07/2006 will not be entitled to PPP once their youngest child turns 6 years old and need to transfer to an alternative payment (for example, Newstart Allowance with part-time activity requirements like working, studying or looking for work).
Recipients of Parenting Payment Single who were granted AFTER 01/07/2006 will no longer be entitled to PPS once their youngest child turns 8 and need to transfer to an alternative payment (for example, Newstart Allowance with part-time activity requirements)
Recipients of Parenting Payment Partnered OR Parenting Payment Single who were granted PRIOR to 01/07/2006 can continue to receive Parenting Payment Partnered until their youngest child turns 16, but have part time activity test requirements once their youngest child turns 7.
