My DS was jan 2012 and I had the same thing - had sent paperwork to centrelink and they were supposed to send over to Medicare as well. Many weeks later he still wasn't in the card.

I think all I needed was his certificate and my old card.? I don't think I needed copies of his hospital paperwork.

I had to take ds to dr before medicare card was in. i also had to pay upfront, but received money back from medicare once i had medicare card.

i think i only needed birth certificate to add ds to card. i would go into centrelink office and see what they can do. initially, they gave me a paper card with the medicare numbers on it, and the card was sent out later.

I only needed the birth certificate and my card for both my kids. Nobody ever asked to see the hospital form.

I was told if I took DD1 to the docs before the Medicare card with her name in it had arrived I would be charged the full fee but could claim it back from Medicare once the card came in. In the end I think the docs just said they'd claim once she was added to the card.

I'm in the same boat - DS was born on 29 December and I still don't have a Medicare card. I got him seen at my local clinic yesterday on my card and the receptionist asked me to ring them and give them DS number when I get it, so I didn't have to pay. I am going to call Medicare this week, as I know that Centrelink has processed their part. I sent the paperwork in mid-January, so Medicare have had it for about 4 weeks...

My Doctor just saw the baby, I filled out the medicare forms and then I called the card number in for them to add once it had been issued and they did the rest.

Today Out of no hope I called the medicare in the morning and I am told baby is been enrolled but medicare card can't be issued till First of March.she said if you need; go to the medicare office with your medicare card and ask them to print you a temporary card.

so fingers crossed this time we get the card for bub

Starfish: I would suggest you to call centerlink on family assistance number and tell them you need medicare card and can't afford to pay the fee ( in my case it was 70$ per visit and for immunization 11$ extra for nurse at pathology) Iam sure ringing them might work.

Your local council might have free vaccination sessions too. They might just need your medicare number, but not neccesarily see the card. or they might just need your green book (or whatever the colour is this year)
