Does receiving child support impact on your family Tax benefit?

Months ago I enquired at centrelink how much I'd be entitled to receive of Family Tax benefit A and B. At the time as I had received a large sum of maintanence they said this would impact on what I'd be entitled to (I'd elected to get anything I was entitled to at the end of this financial year)

So I call again yesterday and they said maintanence has nothing to do with how much Family Tax benefit I'm entitled to. So one call person has said one thing whilst the other said the exact opposite. Does anyone know who is right?

I dont get either (it's what happens when you procreate with a d*ck) but I have always been led to believe that child support impacts your FTB entitlements.

Yes unfortunately I am suffering from procreating with a d*ck also. His measily $40 a month wouldn't hurt my FFB much except I received a large sum of money this financial year due to almost 9years of his not paying and the debt rising. So really it didn't help at all as all it means is I now am not entitled to FFB.

    Thanks for your replies.

Yes it does impact for FTB payments. Not sure of the exact formula (to comlicated for me) but it certainly can depending on the amount received, if received in a lump sum etc.

I get child support - it doesn't affect my parenting payment, but I get virtually no FTA/FTB for her. I only get it for the other two kids, or at least that's what I can work out anyway, since the FTA/FTB went down so much when he actually got a job and stopped with the $10 a month child support, but went up by the 'standard' amount for each of the other two.

ftb part a and rent assistance are impacted by child support

there is an amount you are entitled to receive each year that doesn't touch your ftb

once your assesment or actual received goes over this amount (from memory, it is around 1800 for one child), you start losing 50c in the dollar until you are getting no rent assistance and only basic amount of ftba for that child. now, i know 50c in the dollar sounds like a lot, BUT, you have already received 1800 plus, and it works out for every dollar you get you lose about a cent a week over a full year. you are i guess you can look at it that you're getting twice as much child support than you would be ftba - plus you've already got that 1800 ish

AND before anyone jumps down my throat and says that their maintenance has impacted ftbb as well - the ONLY way that happens is if you have an assesment on which your payments are based, and then that assesment (from child support) changes to a higher amount OR you receive a lump sum of arrears child support. in that case, all ftb related payments are reduced til end of financial year based on what you will get in that financial year as child support only affects you in the year you receive it

ooh, another "dont jump down my throat!" - i know some of you will have assessments that reduce your payment but you're not receiving your actual child support. if you are on CSA collect (he pays them, they pay you), there is a record of what you have received. come tax time, if you are supposed to have received x amount (say 2500) and your payment has been reduced, BUT, you only received y amount (1800), any amount of ftb you have lost for that gap will be paid at reconciliation time. hence the statement "it only affects you in the year you receive it" - ultimately, when you look at the money you receive for the full financial year (including reco), you will see it work out

    hope that helps!
