No, should be ok! The main things are to take ur temp as soon as you wake up before you do anything or talk even and to take it at the same time everyday. Sounds like that's what you're doing so it should be fine!!
Hi all!
I'm new to the world of temping and have been doing so for the last 2 weeks. I wake up to an alarm each morning, and was just wondering if this in any way affects temp readings, as I am usually 'startled' from my sleep.
Any guidance would be most appreciated.
Thanks![]()

Thanks SaraJane! Yup same time every morning (5.15 when DF gets up!!!) and the thermomerter goes straight in my mouth. I think i'm getting the hang of it.....slowly!
Ok ladies, so I have yet another dumb question.....I'm pretty sure I sleep with my mouth open every night. So far my temps have been pretty low, and I am putting it down to this. However, would this also cause my temps to fluctuate?? I thought that as my mouth is always open it shouldn't have any effect....
Thanks again, and sorry for all the questions!!!
I have no idea - I wouldn't think so but you never know!
Hi Melis81,
Ok, so this is what I found on the net. I suppose if you are always sleeping with your mouth open, then your BBT is automatically "adjusted" to be unique to you so you can still see a pateern, IYKWIM?
I notice lower temperatures when I sleep with my mouth open or when I breathe through my mouth at night. Is this normal? What should I do about these temperatures?
When you sleep with your mouth open or breathe through your mouth at night, you may notice that your basal body temperatures are lower than usual. This is not unusual but there is really no way to correct the chart to account for this. If this happens only occasionally (due to nasal congestion with a cold for example) this should not have much impact on your chart. Simply make a note of the circumstances so that you will remember why that temperature seems out of place. One or two unusual temperature points will not usually affect your chart interpretation. You will still likely be able to see your ovulation pattern.
I do get what you mean Belle75 by correcting itself, but I still have my doubts. TMI alert, I might try temping vaginally next cycle to see if there is any difference. Hopefully it will be more accurate, and my cover line wont keep disappearing/reappearing on me!
Thanks for everyones input,and
to all!
Does it matter where you temp?
If I do mine underarm should I maybe do it after I've been up for a while (ie: not under doona)?
Hey Ladies
Just a quick note for MillyC, it doesn't matter where you temp as long as you are consistent. I usually recommend oral temping just because it's easy, but other ways are equally accurate. The most important thing is to take your temp as soon as you wake up (after at least 3 solid hours of sleep), and before you move around or get out of bed. The more regular you are with the time you check, the easier it will be to see your BBT and cyclic patterns.
All the best wishes in the universe to you all!
xxx
Thanks, Nicole!
HI Melis81
WOW you are really getting down to the "nitty gritty parts" will keep popping in this thread to see how you go ... have not persuaded myself yet to get that technical about it all ,... just "practising" as much as i can as hubby is always home very late ... still hoping that we will be able to announce it roughly at the same time![]()
cross my fingers for you !
Hey Gecko!
Yes really getting into it all now! I decided i would try charting when i started on the Vitex. Has now been 84 days and still no AF, although I think i may have ovulated on the 23/9, soAF will show up next week sometime. My chart corresponds with the symptoms i (think) i had, cramping and pain on my left side.
DF was laughing at me last night cos i have now replaced all the wedding magazines i had with TTC mags
How are you going anyway? You had AF since you stopped taking the pill? What pill were you taking? I found out last week that i was on a high dose pill (Dianne) and that it can take a while to get back to regular cycles after it.
Announcing feels so far away at the moment, can't wait though!!!
Hi Melis81 !
good to hear from you
well, what?s new on my side ,...took my last active pill on the 14/9 and as usual AF arrived on the 18/9 which is normal so far - i was on a what they call ( i think) a micro pill if i remember right it was called Monofeme ... so once AF had left the buildingwhich was the 22/9 we stared to look up a online Ovulation calculator and it told me based on the fact that i have/had ( and i hope my body keeps working like clock work) it have may first fertile day on the 28 ( also advised that it would most likely be a girl when conceived around that date
)29 and the 30 are also fertile and the is most fertile and today i should ovulate ... well that would be in a perfect world...
we were practicing accordingly ... only odd thing so far i had a few drops of blood in my undies on the 30 th but nothing sinceso i guess that it so far now i will keep on practising a little more, just in case and on the 16 th AF should technically arrive ...again that it is a perfect world but if it does i at least know everything is working
and then i will get "down to Business" according to the calendar...
did i understand this right - you stopped taking the pill about 84 days ago![]()
- good luck with the AF showing up,...
i hear what you are saying - that it all feels so far away ... but we have to think positive - how does that saying go ? WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT, YOU BRING ABOUT !!!
hope we can keep in tough !
Morning Gecko!
Got my fingers crossed for you that your body and cycle return to normal. I'm sure your DH is looking forward to the business end of things...hehe
AFM, I actually stopped taking the pill in January, and my cycles thus far have been 42, 51,46,46 and now 85 days. So i'm a bit worried, but since finding out that it could be because of the high dose pill I was on, confident that I can get it back to something a bit more 'normal'. Please please please Vitex, work your magic on me!
And I hear what you're saying about being positive. My DF is the same, and gets angry at me for being negative. So now i'm telling myself everyday that "i will be pregnant by the end of the year!"
hi Melis81,
Well i am your perfect partner in crime !! lets make a pact to be UTD by X-mas and that is the "only" present we wish for![]()
sending all my happy thoughts your way - and hey if you have a bad day - let it all out in this thread - i am a good listener, and then you are "all good again" by the time you talk to DF
Hope you have a good long weekend, i am glad that my day is over was pretty morbid at work today, and i had that odd "pulling" in my lower stomach all day - odd as AF is not due yet ...

Hey Gecko!
I reckon I would be happy for the next 5 xmas' if I was pg at the end of this year, I'll say a prayer for each of us every night, and hopefully we'll both get the perfect present!
Hope you have recovered from your horror day at work, and now enjoying your long weekend. Unfortunately its not a long weekend in Vic, so off to work again tomorrowThank god for Belly Belly....hehe!
Did the 'pulling' in your stomach amount to anything yet? I've been experiencing the same pulling since Thursday, but still no AF. I'm sure it has to be it though!
Good morning partner in crime !
Sorry to hear that you haven't got a long weekend ... hope your day at work will be short and sweet !
As for me, i'm enjoying a cup of tea on my couch with my laptop, as the weather is not on our side, it's been rainy all weekend which is a shame as i was meant to some serous gardening ..oh well it will have to wait till next week
...just waiting on my DH to come home so we can go and grab some lunch, as he went to see some clients, he is a workaholic (not by choice thought)
I did some more reading & found out that i was on a typ of pill that prevented the ovulation, although it's a type of micro pill (that was my impression anyways) so i came to the conclusion - that it must have been the "ovulation pain" that's what i would like to think for now anywayshihi
Meaning the implantation according to the "perfect text book scenario" would be around the 9/10 and i could do a test on the 16/10 shall i be so lucky ...
so to use your words - i hope the 'pulling' in my stomach amounts to a BFP hahaha
Well if not, - then i will just tell myself - its my body getting his act together, and all the pulling and little aches were the signs of my little perfect egg getting ready for round # 2
How does the saying go _ What you think about, you bring about !
On this note, i send all my happy thoughts your way ! i got a hunch that we both get our wish sooner then we think![]()
