    Temping

    Hi all

I'm new to temping, and I was just wondering what the best way to go about it is?
When to temp etc. I use FF So I know it can do the pin pointing for me, but I haven't tried it before

    TIA

    Hi there welcome.

FF should take most of the guesswork out of it for you. Have you read the tutorials? They're really handy.

I took my temp under the tongue at the same time each morning before I got out of bed. Getting up and moving around will start to raise it.

There are other things that can affect an accurate reading as well - for example, if you sleep/breathe with your mouth open, the temperature of the room, if you have a cold etc. Just something to be aware of.

I found FF helpful for a few months to get to know my cycle better, but ditched it after a while once I had some idea what my body was doing. It can get a bit stressful 'checking up' on your body each day - not to mention being a bit of a mood killer for morning lovin'!

Good luck, hope you get your BFP soon.

    Thanks for the reply!

Yea I am just using it to get back into knowing whats going on with my body atm! I used to know it perfectly, 26-28 day cycles, Ov on day 12. But my cycles have gotten longer, as high as 38, and my last was 33 so I think its going back down again. All so confusing to me as I don't know when to expect AF anymore

I just need to get a basic idea of when I Ov so DP and I can start TTC properly

    Thanks again

The most accurate measure is your basal body temp, not under the tongue. You can buy special BBT thermometers from chemists etc.

Same deal, first thing when you wake up, but you take the temp vaginally instead of orally.

That's the most accurate! Good luck!

I took mine under the tongue as well. I didn't think it made a difference as long as you do it the same every day. It is the overall pattern you're looking for. Basal temp just means your lowest body temp which is during sleep. So as long as you take it first thing upon waking before you do or say anything, it will be accurate.

Huh, I did not know that! Why would you choose one or the other I wonder?

I'm sure FF will tell me. Off to check...

Yep, I used a BBT thermometer orally. Preferred it that way - personal choice

Tubby puff, are you watching other signs as well - fertile cervical mucus, twinges/pangs etc? Can be helpful in pinpointing the lead-up to O.

PS another option is to use Ovulation Prediction Kits/Tests to detect the surge. I actually found these more reliable than temping in the end.

Ok FF says you can do either - but you should not change during a cycle. Do one or the other for a complete cycle and if you are charting long term you should try and stick to the one method.

From what I read, it seems most people start orally but then if you are getting erratic readings, you can try vaginal to see if that smooths them out. Or something.

It didn't say one was more accurate than the other.

I have used OPKs before, but I haven't got any atm, Will be buying some soon though
I think I prefer the idea of under the tounge But as OP said, if I get erratic readings I will change

    Thanks ladies

Oh, I have also been tracking everything else, to from back pains to tiredness and checking cervix and CM too.
Would it be best to wait till the start of my next cycle to start temping? I'm already half way through this one.

There's no harm in starting now - if only to get yourself into the routine of temping as soon as you wake up, before moving around.

    Good luck!!

    You're all over it!

Up to you, but I reckon wait - otherwise it might be hard to see a pattern. Whatever you prefer

I'll start now just to get into the habit of it I think I'm terrible with getting myself into a routine :P
