Should the kindy teachers tell you when your child has had a accident at kindy no matter how small it is ??
Kimberley has a nice bruise on her hip and she says she did it at kindy on Tuesday but no one told me this when i picked her up. I feel that they should tell you these things.
Yep I agree with Tegan, perhaps it wasn't seen. Otherwise they would definitely write an incident report. There should be a log book available for viewing for the parents.
Yep, if there was a bruise then they definately should have spoken to you. Perhaps the carer who saw it had left for the day? If they put cream on it then there should be someone who saw it happen!!
When I worked in a daycare centre we had to write up a accident report and show the poarent and have them sign it no matter how small the accident was
It's possible they have simply forgotten to tell you. Sometimes they get busy and things slip their minds.. or possibly she just fell or bumper her hip on a cupboard and the teacher put "magic" cream on it..
I had Glenn come home with a massive lump on the back of his head. I didn't notice till I was drying him after his bath so he had been home about an hour. I called the next morning & the Director said Oh yes he fell. I was fuming but kept my cool but told her I was very annoyed that I was not told of it. She got me to sign the accident report the next time I was in. She told me what happened & that Glenn didn't want Ice on his head, which I confirmed with Evan (the good thing about having the older sibling there, he tells me everything) what happened. I know what Glenn is like so I can understand that the director thought he was ok as he tend to only need a "your Ok" and a kiss & he is off running around like nothing happened. But she should have checked him later on. I mean this fall happened at 2.30pm & I noticed it at 6.30pm & it was still there a week later! I complained to the other staff memebers about accident reports needing to filled in for everything & she agreed & said she does have to remind other staff to do them.
I have since complained to the head office about the director as well. She is a nice lady but she is just to much of a air head!
I agree - I'd definitely make an issue of it. At my DD's kindy they have it written in two spots to make sure the parents are informed and also the teacher tells you if they are there or lets the other teacher know if they've gone. So we get a note in their 'daily activities log book', 'incident report' that includes what action was taken, how it happened etc, and the teacher informs us. And it's for anything even trivial stuff like a scratch.
To be honest they might have told me but they was late out of kindy and i had to get Kimberley to a eye appt so they didn't get much of a chance to say anything.
So part of them not telling me could have been my fault.
Perhaps you could suggest a new system where they have a copy of the incident report in the childs bag and they also tell the parents. That way if for whatever reason the teacher doesn't get to tell the parent, the parent still gets the report in the child's bag?
At Harry's kindy they write on the sign in sheet next to the child's name if you need to sign an incident report - so when you go to pick up your child there will be little note next to their name saying 'form to sign' or something like that. They do these for the smallest thing.
My SILs friend had an incident recently at her DD's daycare where her DD got a broken collarbone - and the carer/s had no idea! There was no incident report or anything, and they apparently didn't realise anythign was wrong. It was only when the mum came to pick her up and realised something was wrong and took her to the doctor that it was found. Conveniently the next day the day care came up with an incident report but it was too late - SILs friend is suing them now and I don't blame her!
Just thought that i would add that it is state regulations that not only the parent be contacted re: the injury/illness but also that it be reported to DHS. That is one of the reason DHS are around then they will work with the service to see ehy the injury accured and what actions should be taken ect ect, DHS should also be contacted if a child is sent home with temp, runny poos and any infection ect - its full on and most childcare centers do not abide by this. I would proberly guess that your child did not get upset and did not tell the staff at the service
