Childcare, what do I need to look for?

We are looking to put ds1 into childcare for a day a week but I have no idea about childcare really so don't know what to look for. What are important things to look for in a childcare centre and what tips are there in regards to finding the right centre. I know what I'm looking for but would be nice to know what others look for in case I'm missing something. Thanks for your responses!

At the age that he is...... Do they have a kinder program. Some do some dont and like ours some only have a 4 year old kinder program.

Go and sit in for a day. You will just know if it is right for you or not.

I went to the first centre and it was total choas and I left saying I couldnt leave my DD there. My DH said he was sure I would be like that with every centre but when I came across the one we are at now I just knew this was the place. The room was kept tidy and kids were happy. They had a 0-1 room (my dd was 6 months when she started) which was a big plus for me. Now we are looking into another centre that has a 3 year old kinder, however I am in two minds about moving DD. The carers at this one are lovely people and they do a great job. They facilitate if I am sick and need an extra day. Have a concert every year and break up parties. Celebrate the kids birthdays. Its a lovely place really.

The only advice I can give is to go have a look. Some places are not kept clean and really seem to have no control and appear to be overcrowded. Also you want that time to ensure DS fits in nicely with everyone. It helps put your mind at ease and the transition smoother.
