Our daycare centre is going to be doing the kindy program next year.. While I like the principle of it, I am struggling with the idea of having to send DD when I won't be working. They have said that the child must be there for at least 3 days to qualify, and I am dropping my days at work back to 2 next year..
So can anyone 'sell' the program to me so I can justify financially putting her in the extra day (this will also mean putting DS in as well, as there is no way DD will go to daycare if DS doesn't). So I need to know more about the program
My other options are looking for an alternate daycare, but I don't want to take DD away from her friends, or I can tell work that I can work a 3rd day (they would be happy with that, but I fought so hard for 2, convincing them the girl I will be jobsharing with work well together, and that it is pointless us both being there on a Wednesday. I don't want to backflip now).
The Qld govt actually came up with the 3 days per week thing - in that they will not fund centres running the program for any children who attend less than 15 hours per week. So that would be why your centre has the ruling that they must attend 3 days.
The kindy program is very good from what I've seen - they will be using the QKLG - Qld kindergarten learning guide - which is a natiionally approved curriculum. It is very play based but has lots of spontaneous learning moments and intentional teaching as well.
Unfortunately we've been unable to find a teacher to run the program in our centre so I can't give you much more feedback.
Do you have a health care card by any chance? There is stipulation in place that families holding one must have their fees reduced as centres get more funding for these families.
Our accredited kinder program is only 2 days per week and I do know of some which run a 5 day fortnight so might be worth looking around if you only want 2 days per week.
