WWYD, How many days of 3yr Kinder

Today DD got confirmation of a placement for 3yr old kinder for next year.

We have the option to send her for 1 day or 2 days a week (from 9.30am - 12pm, Mon & Wed) but I need to advise the kinder in 2 weeks time of how many days she will be enrolled for. She will definitely be going on Monday's but I'm trying to figure out if I should send her on Wednesday as well.

At this stage I haven't been advised of the cost but I know that if I choose to send her 2 days and then decide to reduce it back to 1 day I need to pay for the 2 days she is enrolled for, and once she starts I then can't opt to add the extra day if I think she would benefit from it due to the classes being full.

DD doesn't go to childcare at all so Kinder will be her only 'socialising' days with other children without me being there with her.

WWYD, 1 or 2 days - and for parents with children in 3yr old kinder if you had the option for extra days would you take them or do you think 1 day is enough??

Not knowing your daughter, if you can afford it I'd advise that you'd like to send her for 2 days and then if it doesn't work out drop back to one. It's only really the fees for term 1 that you'll be overpaying for if she does drop back.

how does she go socialising without you generally? Do you think she'd benefit from the time away or do you think she would struggle?

I'll be sending my son 2 days but he is currently in long day care three days a week so I know he will love it.

I would say send her for two. 2.5 hours a week isn't a lot of time a week to settle in and get to playing with others.

My DS started this year and he does 2 days per week. I could only get afternoons which I thought would suck, but they work really well for us. He had never been to childcare either and was worried about how he'd go but he walked in there like he'd been there 10 years lol. He's a really anxious kid as well and I could never have imagined he'd do so well.

Has she been for a look? Does she like it there?

I would opt for the 2 days. My DD goes for one day and I have found that from the end of second term she is looking to go another day. She gets bored at home even though I try to do different things with her. One day is not enough. Given her choice she would go every day

I would enrol for 2 days too. The sessions aren't very long for 3 year old but if you feel she isn't coping you can always cut back one session later? My DD did two days for 3 year old and so will DS next year.

Thanks girls, I am leaning towards 2 days and she is fine without having me around , today we went to play gym and she happily went off and did her own thing and when I would check to make sure she is o.k I would get told "go away mummy". We also have the issue of boredom here as well plus her socialising with children her own age will be good - at our playgroup the kids are all 12-18mths older than her or are younger - around the same age as her brothers - so she will benefit from playing with kids her own age.

I also think as it is Mon & Wed, it still means that she will have 2 days home at the end of the week to catch up on sleep etc after having a busy beginning of the week. I know she is looking forward to going as she already asks when she will be big enough to go to school.
