if shes like M, and wouldnt drink her formula (or BM), i put her on some Penta-vite. It seemed to boost her up alot. Its a multi vitamin for bubs 0-3 years.
I have to agree that AB's don't work with Brochiolitis if it is the viral form, it can come in a bacterial form as well.
If she is not drinking and has chest recessions (drawing in her ribs when she breathes - above her tummy) then i would take her to hospital. But if she is keeping up her fluids and having wet nappies than best to ride it out.
We have had two bouts this year, and they thought last Sunday was it for the third time, but it ended up being an acute viral infection pneumonitis (imflamation of the lungs) coupled with what they expect is Chronic Mild Asthma (DD has had a wet sounding cough for months now).
I made the call to take her to hospital after the two courses of Prednisolone and two doses of ventolin (4 puffs) and she showed no sign of improvement, went off her food and drink and was having chest recessions. Unfortunately for us it was 4 days in hospital on O2 and Ventolin, we also finished a 3 dose course of Prednislone which we started on the Saturday as we thought it was Croup again.
The other two times she had it we just steamed up the shower, she slept upright in my arms as when she wa laying flat she couldn't sleep and coughed and woke herself up all night, and offered smaller more frequent feeds.
Thanks again everyone...
*Beema* you poor thing, i worry that DD might have asthma as she has eczema and i had asthma as a child but they can't tell me just yet.
She seems ok with food and bottles (if given upright) and the cough settles a bit during the day with just that horrible wheezing sound, we get her to do a fake cough and that normally helps bring on a real one...
Hope your DD improves and all the nasties go away... it's horrible for our poor lil ones!
Will see how she goes and maybe start AB's tomorrow if she's no better, can't hurt i guess just in case it's a little more, she had a viral infection last week and the Dr says this has progressed so i am not sure if he means gone bacterial etc... hmm wish they would speak in plain language!
Oh well your all wonderful and thanks for your support!
The asthma is a tricky thing, it isn't official until she has had 3 attacks or is over 2 years of age. But her Paeditrician and Dr's at her last admission said that she had all of the markers of CMA they just couldn't officially call it that, yet every refered to her being asthmatic !
DS had bronchiolitis (was 5 months) and it was horrendous. He sounded terrible, ended up in hospital etc. He coughed for about 6 weeks all up, but we couldn't use ab's.
ONe thing I love is probiotics. A good probiotic. Go to a good health frood store and they will have some. Nothing commercial. The ones we're on are called Life start.
xo
Thanks everyone.... just to be sure started her on the AB's this morn, she was up 3 times before 12 last night crying with cold sweats which is very unusual for her, temp was up to 38 after panadol yesterday and she is just very irritable.
I know this is also because of her eyes but i can't see her suffer any longer so am hoping that the AB's help her that little bit more.
Not relying on them solely but nothing else has worked so far, i don't like the idea of her taking them but i think she has done well to get to over 11mths without needing medications etc and minimum use of panadol and nurofen... guess just saying that to take the pressure off myself.
Hopefully with the drops and the AB's we should see some improvement by early this week.
Mumma2Three, will def have a look for the probiotic.. wanna kill this stuff now and then try different things if it ever comes back!
Off to buy her some more yoghurt today as she ate the last one yesterday.. she LOVES her yoghurt... lol
