DH loved this article. His brother has Asperger's and Matilda is in the diagnosis process. Both DH & I withdrawal from life when its too intense, so it makes total sense to us

I have very little life experience wth people that have this condition (that I am aware of that is) but I can see that it makes a lot of sense.

I know if I watch a movie that is just too sad and touches too close to home I would prefer to turn it off and avoid it. If you feel those things MUCH stronger of course you would prefer to distance yourself.

That's a very interesting theory. I must admit that my experience with ASD is quite limited as well. I'd love to see more research into this.
