I thought DS had a scratch under his eye on Monday night & didn't think much of it. On Tuesday I looked closer & realised he actually had a tick that had caused a red mark.
I've heard of different ways to get them out, so tried a few. It was very tiny & I tried getting it out with tweezers, but couldn't get a good hold on it. So I tried some tea tree oil & vasoline, coz I've heard so much different info about what to & what not to do, that I didn't know what was right or wrong.
Anyway, I finally got it out late Tuesday arvo, so it was in his skin for about 24 hours.
The kids have had the odd tick before, but they only ever left a dot that was maybe a bit itcy for a few days/weeks. Yesterday & this morning it is actually looking a bit worse.
Slightly swollen & kind of bruised. Where the tick was actually in his skin was just a little hole, but this morning there is a tiny little scab there, even though there was no blood or anything yesterday.
I think he might have an infection in his body anyway, so maybe its just that & abs will clear it all up. I wasn't going to worry about them coz his flu seems to be clearing up. He got the flu & had a green snotty nose with phlegmy cough, but his snot has gone back to clear. At the same time he fell asleep with the wrong nappy so woke with a very swollen foreskin (very sensitive), but that seems to be improving as well. I have bactroban here somewhere coz that happens every few months, but haven't found it to use it this time yet. & I don't think I need it now, coz it is heaps better. Almost back to normal.
I don't know. If it was an infection in his body, would it be getting better without abs? Would everything else be getting better but the tick bite getting worse coz of an infection, or could it be totally unrelated & the tick needs to be looked at.
I know its all confusing, it is for me, but I don't have a car to see a gp, so thought I'd ask here. I'm not sure if I'm worrying about nothing or not.
Sometimes you can get a bit of tick reaction but it sounds like it isn't too bad. I would keep an eye on it but not be too worried personally. If he had an allergic reaction to the tick bite then you would really know about it. And they don't often get infected - especially as you put tea tree on it. If you are worried you could bathe it in saline wash then you wouldn't have to worry about anything getting in his eye.
Im allergic to ticks. When i get a tick, the reaction i get is an ichy rash all over my body.. To get rid of it i need to take antibiotics and use a cream. I havent ever had anything similar to what you are describing though, so in my experience i would tend to think they are due to a different reason. You can get scabs even though you dont bleed if the skin has been broken. If it looks infected, just try and put some anticeptic or something on it and keep it clean. And just keep an eye on it. If it looks to get worse or he seems to feel a bit off, then maybe a trip to the doctor.
Considering his flu & everything else is healing I'm not going to worry unless it looks worse tomorrow. It has gotten slightly worse over the last 2 days, but hopefully it'll start getting better tomorrow.
Thanks
If you can't get to the GP's then try your local chemist. They can usually tell you what is wrong and if needed give you something for it. If it is beyond them they will tell you to go to the dr's.
